Was surprised when the Scott LBS across the border in PA had a large Scott Aspect 950 (they just got in). Went to look at it and it just followed me home. Yes, it's a mountain bike, but it has close to a hybrid kind of geometry. Am loving the paint where it looks like bare Alum, but it's the paint strokes. Switched out the 9 speed Altus on it with the still new Alivio rear derailleur off of my Crosstrail. Am also setting up my Specialized Crosstrail for sale. Had put the new Altus onto the Crosstrail. Am really looking forward to new adventures this year with my bikes!

That's a neat paint scheme. Modern hard tail mountain bikes actually make great hybrid bikes. I have a 27.5" one with some 2.2" Continental X-King tires on it and it's terrific on mixed use/gravel stuff. So much so that I don't even bother with my Trek 750 "street hybrid" for anything other than 100% pavement. And it has 38mm tires! The larger tires are just that much more comfortable and pleasant to ride. I have wide MTB fenders on it (my MTB) and will be converting it to Microshift Advent 1x as soon as those parts come in the mail. It's become my go-to bike for almost everything.

I suspect the Scott Aspect will be much the same for you, travbikeman . Enjoy it!

Thanks! I was watching video's of the Microshift Advent 9 and 10 speed. Those have really become impressive!

Would be very interesting to hear from you on how you like the set and would of course like to see pictures!

My 08’ Schwinn Volare gave up her old brakes to my winter beater and got herself a new set of Tektro 710’s in black.

Put a pair of Continental Grand Prix 4 Season 700 x 32mm tires on. Taking it for a test run tomorrow. I was running Conti 4000s II in 28mm but I wanted something a little wider and versatile.

I replaced the headset on my '95 Trek 730 Multitrack. Original was a Tange Seiki Passage; new one is a Tange Seiki Levin CDS.

I also installed a set of Shimano PD-T8000 pedals; my first foray into the clipless world.

Swapped the flat bar for a Nitto Albatross bar. It alleviated the wrist pain I'd been developing.

I got a new chain installed today. Sram pc-971. I finally bought a chain checker last year so I could finally check the chain myself.

Got my new Giant Escape 3 Comfort on the 17th. of March but the weather was cruddy till Sat. the 20th. so I did a bit of upgrading, #1. the stock seat is worthless, bought a Sell-Royal Respiro Gel Mens saddle and installed it, MUCH better!! Changed out the useless stock pedals for a set of quills with full toe clips and straps, worked very well. Added Bell, Cateye bike wireless bike computer, brass bell, Cateye head light, Schwinn tail light, water bottle cage and air pump. Will add full fenders soon!! Got in a 20 mile first ride on Sat. the 20th. and then that day, late afternoon we picked up my wife's new, LIV Alight 3. Sunday was crud, spitting rain, turning to snow in the late afternoon, so I added light, bell, two water bottle cages, air pump and switch out the useless stock pedals to quills with 1/2 toe clips on the wife's new bike! Now, we wait for the SNOW and COLD to go away again so we can get in some miles on the new bikes!

I changed out the stock 28/38/44 triple crankset for a 22/32/44 triple crankset to make climbing uphill grades and hills much easier, top end speed means ZERO to me so it works well for ME!! Added a 500 lum NightRider head light and a small blackburn head light to use as a "blinker" only, handlebar water bottle cage added, I'm OLD I like having my water easy to get too! I guess that's why I bought the "COMFORT" version of the Giant Escape 3, Next addition will be full fenders!

Added a velcro strap to the homemade phone mount. The six magnets alone were fine for years,
but then it fell off two times in one day recently when I hit some bumps "just right". Yikes!

Also needed a way to mount a cheap taillight

Just received new Panniers for our overnight ride in August for my wife's first "Tour de Cure"-Rocky Mountains. The tour is "Virtual" this year so we are going to do 60+ miles from Colorado Springs, to Castle Rock, CO. and stay the night, then ride back.

New Waterproof Panniers!!

Put some bars on with more width, upsweep. Also swapped the steel QR for aluminium and titanium ones. Also requires an Allen wrench to open.

A fender set in silver from Planet Bike will go on this Globe as well.

New tires, Conti 700 x 32 Gaterskins installed. Replaced a busted

spoke on the back wheel.

Duct tape. Here is where I make a joke about fixing a cracked frame but I can’t post pictures yet. Actually it turns out that paint has been worn away where my wife’s bike when we put them both on the car bike rack. Temporary barrier.

On a happier note, Jones bar arrived today.

This past week I had re-greased the hub bearings in all 4 of my kids and my bikes along with an extra set of wheels I had. 10 wheels total needed cup and cone bearings to be repacked with fresh grease. A few of the wheels were surprisingly rough or a bit crunchy. Only hub that seems to have some slight damage due to this was by daughters inexpensive Fuji. That hub had plenty of grease in it, but it was very dirty, which surprised me since she doesn't ride it all that often. That hub really does not have a good seal....err...actually, it doesn't have a seal, just a very simple cone covering the bearings and cup. But the cup and cone only had a few marks and one bearing needed replacing.

The Formula hub on my new mtn bike did not feel put together correctly. The manufacturer over tightened the cones on that hub and took a bit of adjustment to get it right.

What really surprises me is how little grease Shimano puts in their hubs. I had expected the no name brand on the Fuji bike to have no grease, or the Formula's that I repacked the bearings to have little grease in them. I was not expecting to see so little to nearly no grease in the wheels with the 2 Turney's, 1 rear Acera and my 2 new Deore hubs on the new wheels I had put together this past Octoberish. My front Deore hubs bearings were barely slick and the rear was just a few dabs more with grease.

The wheels definitely felt better riding after putting a decent amount of grease in them. My advice to all that is reading this, check your hubs! If it feels like the wheels are rough, repack those bearings! You will enjoy the ride so much better afterwards.
