Did a 30 mile north just to be outside today. It was a nice ride with the exception of getting cut off twice, almost run over crossing Linden in the cross walk and a dog running in front of me and almost hitting it.
Can't wait till the weekdays when there's less people out and about.

I mostly never ride the BP path. The sections from Merrick Rd to Linden are always super busy. I sometimes hop on the northern sections, but on a holiday or weekend, I never expect to be doing more than about 12mph avg.

The Massapequa Preserve was not the problem.... it was the roads.

I rode the Service Road from Glen Cove Road to Marathon Parkway today. I wasn't the only one.

There’s typically 30-60 riders heading east from the triangle park in Little Neck, 8:30 weekends, down the service road to Woodbury Rd. Literally the “Triangle” ride. Big Columbian racing group from Queens, Kissena Club riders, plus anybody on L.I. that wants to ride at near race pace. It’s fun to hang onto the back and get pulled along at 25+

This was a first.
A buddy and I went from Massapequa to JB West End this morning. Seems before the beach opens is a nice time to ride west, not many clueless pedestrians, mostly cyclists.
And the female topless photo shoot being done near the picnic area on the beach at the west end marina area. With a lot of folks riding by, families included. Kind of odd.
Buddy complained of a pulled eyelid.

So my lower back has been a mess for over a week and last night it really tightened up and barely got any sleep. I was burnt out but I knew getting outside and riding would stretch it out. So I headed out for a easy 20 miles and would up doing 30. Only averaged 14.2mph and it was very relaxing.
BTW, there was a Kaos Joe sighting. Can't miss that tandem or the mustache.

I've had a nasty week too, acute pharyngitis, and now on amoxicillin with its own unpleasant side effects (there was what my Dad used to call a "music roll" in that seat bag). So 2 shortish rides for us this weekend, 35 & 34 miles. The Mrs did a good job compensating for my deficiencies.
Hope your back improves, and watch those eyelids.....

Headed out early and went north to Oyster Bay. The wind was in my face he entire way. Rode down to Jones and to Tobay, again a strong 16mph headwind. Decided to checkout the path to West End.... not really a path. Mostly boardwalk and old concrete past the closed parking lots. Not going to do it again since he surface is pretty rough and concerned about loose boards and popped nails and screws.

Glenn......new persona! Neither old nor slow were really accurate anyway.
Did you get all the way to West End2? Once you get past the old boardwalk sections there's a couple of miles of really nice smooth new path.
I did a 64 miler.....49 planned miles to Old Dock with the Borrella riders, and then another 15 reared their heads when I discovered I had locked myself out of the car and had to go home for a spare key. Gorgeous day for that kind of screw up.

No.. I must of stopped just before it started. The head wind going west was murderous and sine I was toward the end of my ride, i decided to turn back.

Agree that the JB west end ride isn’t really a “path” being that half is boardwalk, part is re-purposed parking lot and a bit of new path. I like the ability to head that way and extend a ride, depending on the wind. Also don’t like that it can get congested with clueless pedestrians that cannot fathom they are not the only person in the world out using the path. It seems to be OK early, like before 9. Not had issues with the wood sections but JB keeps this in really good shape, not like the old Rockaway boardwalk that I refused to ride. As I’m really tired this year of windy rides, I’m only doing JB when the wind is due south, especially solo.

my first post!
On Sunday rode the Bethpage bike path from Woodbury to Tobay and back. Found a way to avoid most of Merrick Rd on the way back.

Drove to Bethpage to go on a group ride. Got on the bike and found the FD would move but the chain would not catch the large chainring. So I could either do the ride staying on the small ring or go hone and use my other bike... I went home.
Headed to Cold Spring Harbor from my home with a north wind. By the time I headed home.... the wind shifted to the south.
Lucky me.

Rode to the end of Breezy Point. Nice easy ride going out. A bit tougher coming home. . As often as I try to ride the boardwalk I am still pleasantly surprised at the beautiful job they did refurbishing the boardwalk. A quick heads up going W/B on RBB in the 140s bike lane, there is a major size hole in the road, about the diameter of a gallon can of paint approximately 2 ft in length

2 great days back to back on my weekend off, wow. We went with a small group to Bayville Saturday and a bigger group to Old Dock/Kings Park Sunday. The Cannondale developed a creak somewhere in that long drive train Saturday, so yesterday switched bikes. After riding that bridge-girder stiff C'dale, the lighter, willowy steel Bilenky is almost disconcertingly springy. Also funny is that the Mrs said on Sunday that she didn't feel too strong, and meanwhile I'm thinking for 49 miles, Holy Smokes, it's like having an afterburner.
I never get tired of these views. I miss bringing my mutts up there to swim.

Ok Andboy, KaosJoe here. There's lots of ways to get to Montauk. This is the way I usually do it. I'm sure there are improvements to be made so I'll put this where other riders can see it and hopefully we both learn new tricks.
I see from your previous posts you're living in Patchogue and are familiar with the routes 65 & 36 (Middle Rd & South Country) ways of getting east as far as the Wertheim Nat. Refuge, but maybe not familiar with what's further out.
From the Wertheim Refuge, it's bite the bullet and get on Montauk Hwy for a while. Traffic, but a good shoulder for at least a couple of miles. Last time I did the Montauk ride a couple of weeks ago, I found bike route markings on the pavement at the first right turn after the Refuge. Apparently put there by one of the organized rides that traverse the area, it gets you off the highway(good), but the marks either peter out or I just lost the trail somewhere in the wilds of Mastic/Shirley. I just kept trying to head east or north and eventually rejoined Montauk Hwy. If you have GPS or the patience to mess with your phone navigation app this might be a good alternative, but until I join the electronic age I'm probably just going to stay on Montauk and ride with caution. Anyway, only a few miles gets you into Moriches where the traffic/commercial development thins out considerably.

I will be adding the focal features later.
Just got back up to 50 miles, so plan on doing this before the end of the summer - one way!
