Campy globe logo gum hoods

Anyone have a reliable source (no fakes / repros) of reasonably priced Campy globe logo hoods for 1974-79 era Record / Super record brakes? Failing that, shield logo will be ok.

I think any non-repro hoods would be old enough to be unusable. Plenty of good quality repros out there.

Sooo... all those "NOS" ones on fleabay are repros?

If they are all repros, why are there several shield logo ones and no globe ones??

I guess I'll get the least expensive shield logo repro that looks well made. Some look quite scraggly.

I posted a thread about my experience ordering from Italy some time in the past, that's right here - be sure to check reply number 17 for the follow-up: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ake-hoods.html

Overall, I was happy and the hoods I used stayed new-ish looking after a few hundred miles of riding and several months use before I sold the bike they were on. He had both globes and shields. I felt like they were probably re-pops versus NOS.

The one globe logo pair ive bought on eBay about 6 months ago have already started to crack around the edges near the bartape.

I'm on the cusp of trying Rustines hoods.

I bought a bike with reproductions- they wore away, stretched out.
I have a few other sets I bought from a local modelmaker, they are too transparent (campagnolo did vary too)
But he is out of the business.

Right now, for a bicycle I was planning on using, not a concours machine... ( and are there really prestigious concours events?)
I would buy the Somafabshop replicants or Rustines.

Really want someone to carry the Red Rustines Mafac half hoods....

I've got two sets of the shield logo gum hoods on my C&V rides, both sets came from a European seller on eBay, look good, after 2 and 3 years respectively. I'll try to dig up the seller this evening.

Here is the seller I purchased mine from, 2velo.com, Campagnolo shield logo brake hoods, good folks to deal with. Even with coming from Europe the shipping has been very quick and reliable. I also get MAVIC GP4 wheel rim decals from them. Good selection of decals, and well made too.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with, or in anyway related with 2velo.com. Just wanted to have a good source listed here.

Now I remember why I stopped ordering stuff from Bicycle Classics: the prices!
  • Reproduction Campagnolo R/SR world logo gum (and black) hood pair (NEW!)
There are now many, many reproduction world-logo gum hoods out there. Some are awful, some are pretty good. Many are dishonestly sold on eBay as 'NOS' parts, for as much as 125.00 per pair. Our hoods come from Europe (not someone's garage in California, not Japan, not China, not Taiwan) and are very nicely made. If I didn't tell you that they are reproductions, you might think that they were NOS hoods. There is some strong speculation that these come from OEM tooling in Italy. Fits 1968-1987 GS / Record / SR / Victory / Triomphe brakes.
  • Reproduction Campagnolo world logo hoods, GUM, 69.00 (pair), BRHD-CGRW
  • Reproduction Campagnolo world logo hoods, black, 69.00 (pr.), BRHD-CBRW
70 bux for repros; nope!

Another vote for this seller. I have bought from them many times. They also have the old style brake cable housing which looks quite good. Some things are a bit cheap looking up close but passable but the prices are quite good IMO.

I have gotten hoods on bikes not touched since BITD, some of which still had functional hoods. It's unlikely, but not impossible, if you care that much. I don't.

Mike Frayasse (who used to own Paris Sport, and spent his life in cycling) might still be a source for originals...
I have had a few interactions with him, in years past, all of which were easy, and went well.
Feel free to comment if you have personal experience.

His prices sometimes aren't competitive. I have had pretty good luck with him on Everest chains though.
I guess it's like going shopping at the grocery store. Some stuff is cheaper, some is more expensive than the other store down the road.
I used to get hoods from Robbie Fellows, but I'm not sure he's doing them anymore. Quality was always pretty good.

Hmm...what kind of outlay for an Everest chain through him these days? I've been getting the bulk-packaged Sedisport chains from Boulder Bicycle in the past few years for about $16 per. But I wouldn't mind adding a couple/three Everest spares.

Funny you mention Robbie. Long, long ago, he was making some translucent versions of Campy's hoods. He sent me a pair gratis because they came out too dark - he was looking for more of an amber color. I kept them for years and only just installed them on the Colnago Mexico this past summer:

He said he got the idea when he saw this drillium treatment (wanted to be able to show it off):

I had ordered 3 of the Everest Oro chains from Greg and they were $59 each. Seemed a great price compared to other retailers and the auction block.

BTW, a thread over on the CR list of a Sparrow that looks just like yours.
