Colors come and they go. The fact that you are posting this makes me think the black phrase has peaked. It will be interesting to see what comes next.

Thanks. After its maiden voyage of 12 miles home the LBS where it was built. Frame designed and built, and headset, hubs, stem, bars, seatpost and bottle cages manufactured, in the U.S. Going custom is fun. My previous road bike was an Independent Fabrication.

But do you really think an all black bike is what ?, prone to overheating the frame from a hot sun ?, vs, a colorful Colnago or something ?. I mean that just sounds silly.

My avatar bike is red with black highlights. I think it looks OK that way. In fact, any other color just wouldn't have the same effect.

Sure it would -- red, purple, grey, even white. Its an futuristic design so it would be distinctive in any color. Still, its missing an advanced lighting kit, or at least a mount, so one could be retrofit.

Past motorcycle safety studies have indicated the color of motorcycle had no bearing on accident rate - but motorcycle riders wearing white helmets were involved in collisions with other vehicles at half the rate of riders in dark or multi-color helmets.

Visibility I can understand, though I’ve never noticed, mostly as I’m typically wearing some form of colorful clothing, so I don’t think there’s a concern that a motorist is less likely to see you cause your bike is black, vs. white. Night riding maybe, but I’d be using a bunch of blinkies, so.....

For me it's the black spokes. I think nothing is prettier than the sun glinting off the stainless spokes when riding on a sunny day.

You can work with a "basic black dress". It's all about how you accessorize. And you can change the color scheme of your accessories very easily. A black bike can sport neon accessories one day and bright blue the next and hot pink after that. It's a palette to work from. That said, I just took my all black (except main tube) Bike Friday pakit and added silver components because they were upgrades and priced right. I honestly don't care about the component color scheme that much, it's cost per upgrade that matters, lol. Ride fast enough and it all blurs, anyway, haha. But I think ahead stems are fugly and wish I could have a beautiful quill stem with graceful lines.

I don't care what color it is as long as it is shiny. Nothing like the feeling of self worth when your bike is freshly cleaned, waxed and polished. Especially the spokes.

I go the other way- find super clean & shiny bikes vaguely embarrassing.
Bikes & riders that show the effects of lots of miles get my respect.

I took a picture during my commute one day. It struck me how much my orange, lugged steel bike stood out in the sea of black carbon and aluminum.

^^ That orange bike stands out for many reasons having nothing to do with color.

I'm with you. I'm a classic & vintage bike fan, and you can find me hanging out in the C&V section of bikeforums. I like colored frames and silver components.
Ran into the local bike shop owner during lunch today, and he says that the black and especially the matte black bikes sell the best. He recently lost the sale of a full-suspension bike because the paint color was green, and the customer wanted black. He says customers strongly prefer matte finish over glossy.

Apologies. I was thinking the all black bike - frame, components, bar, post, wheels, spokes, etc.... as a kit. Forgot that clothing is a kit, although a somewhat Euro centric phrase.

Be careful what you ask for
I remember (and maybe you do too) ski clothing in the 1980's - every color of neon imaginable in any combination possible. Then in the 90's colors went to all grunge-rock earth tones.
Lately, bright colors on ski clothing and ski/board graphics are definitely making a comeback.
So re: flat black bikes - just wait awhile!
