Original colors or no on a classic?
I am thinking of getting my Specialissima frame powder coated. I don't especially like the original color (burgundy). So I''m considering a completely different scheme and I would also do the lugs in a contrasting color. Original decals are available and I plan to put those on. Any thoughts?

Specialissima from Bianchi? Univega? Other? Pix?
From your bikes listing, I'm guessing it's a Univega. Powder coat it whatever pleases you. If you're asking for opinions, we'll give you what pleases us.

Illusion Rootbeer powder coated
I have an Ochsner, steel frame, that was originally blue. I stripped it to bare metal and had it powder coated. I was going to match the blue as close as I could, but I kept going back to a powder called Illusion Rootbeer. It is a 2 stage coating and the powder was a special order. It cost $180 compared to $100 for a single stage blue that I thought about. I had no qualms changing colors as I was rebuilding the bike for myself to ride, not to sell. It came out great. I do not have a picture with the original blue. Choose whatever color you want.

Is that a 2004 Passat wagon? One of my favorite cars though it bled me dry on repairs. Beautiful bike!

Funnily enough the very first thing I did to my (brand new) UV specialissima frame BITD was scrape off all of the decals.
I think you should paint it whatever color you like. They were very nice frames but hardly a notable example of industrial art.
Contrast lugs aren't usually something I like, but it can look good if well done. Depends. I prefer the traditional contrast head tube like Motobecanes and many British bikes had. Or solid color and lug lining only.

...because powdercoat is so smooth and slick when applied, I'm reluctant to put a clear coat over it for fear the clear will peel in spots and get fugly. And I refuse to rough the surface of a powdercoat job I just paid $140 to have done. So when you order your stickers, consider getting the 2 mil vinyl ones that have UV color protection (one of the choices at Velocals). You just mask off some lines to keep them straight and indicators for where you want them to go, then apply and you're done.
It does leave your stickers a little more vulnerable, but the 2 mil stuff is pretty durable.

That is a 2004 Passat. I purchased it in 2014 with only 34,000 miles on it. Just topped 100,000 last month. Only bad repair bill was replacing transmission gear selector, mostly labor costs. Thanks for compliment on bike.

If you like the bike and want to keep it, do what makes you happy. Paint, powder coat, strip bare, wrap in contact paper, it's your bike.
However, painting a bike to sell rarely works out financially.

Returning to topic, I went with slightly non-original colors (modern metallic maroonish red instead of the original 1950s candy apple) on the 1959 Capo.

Did you get that handlebar tape anytime recently? I've been looking for that stuff and kicking myself for not buying a ton of it when it was available.
