Rustines Campy style hoods on Universal 68 levers
Like others on this forum, I was curious if the Rustines campy style hoods would fit Universal 77 brake levers. I chose to take the plunge and find out for myself.
Do they fit? Kind of. The hoods fit the body shape well, but the trouble comes with the large brake cable housing stops on top.

Here is what I chose to do.
1) Trim the top off of the brand new beautiful hoods with a razor. I didn’t use a really sharp razor, so my cuts looked terrible. Someone with more patience and better planning could do better.
2) Burn the top cut to melt the rubber and smooth the cuts with a flat head screwdriver.

Terrible cut!
3, 2, 1, ignition!
Not perfect, but good enough for me.

I tried something similar with little acceptable success. I never thought of the "ignition" method. Well done!

Reading this thread left me scratching my head a bit. Nice adaptation, MK.
But if the Campy style hoods sort of fit your levers I suspect they aren't really Super 68 model levers.
Which looked like this. Rustines makes replacement hoods for those as I remember.
But more likely style 77 or 125 levers.

You are correct Scott. Can a mod change the title to universal 77?

Thanks. I think I found my new back drop. I’ve lived here for years, I don’t know why I never took pictures of bikes down there before.
Yes, it smelled really bad. I’d recommend doing this outside.
