what light (or device) was this Cateye h17 bracket for?

was cleaning up my boxes of old bike stuff and I came across 3 of these old Cateye H17 (H-17) brackets.
Presumably they were for lights. but I don't see anything in my bag of tricks that fits.
I must have something somewhere, but it would help if I had a clue what I was looking for. (Or, if I knew what fit, I could look on ebay or other for a compatible light.)

I wrote Cateye but they seem to have never seen these before (I expect the staff there is too young)

has anyone seen these brackets in action?

I remember those brackets, but not the corresponding lights. They look like they may actually be compatible with the current lights' bases.

It's been sometime. (2008) But since I rarely throw bike stuff out, I expect I still have these somewhere.

Looks a lot like the mount for my Cateye HL500 headlight. It dates back to the early 90's, or a bit before. It uses two C cells. Not at all comparable to modern lights, with a 1.5W incandescent bulb. Terrible by modern standards, but acceptable by the standards of the day.

edit: looking closely at the mounting bracket, I see that it does say H-17.
