Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Giant's Prototype Gravel Bike

Looks like a Defy with wider tires, no?

Looks like a revamped Giant Revolt, minus the angled chainstays.

i would say revamped mountain bike, but at least it doesn't have a suspension corrected fork. I don't generally consider standover to be a problem on my gravel bike, but I suppose if someone wants to occasionally do singletrack, they might like that.

I get that a seriously talented guy just used that bike to win a race, but damn those hoods seem super high up on the tilted up bars. Maybe it's a camera angle or something.
In a few years, the top tube angle will approach Mixte style height.

The comically big hoods of hydraulic sti will never look nice to me.
with that said, the setup on giant's website makes the bile look a lot nicer with the bars set level and hoods not racked back and upwards.

as for the bike in general...
- I like the color options for the revolt 2 a lot more than the top of the line revolt 0. That's easy to do since the 0 is just black on black.
- fantastic to see a drivetrain spec'd for gravel better than so many of the big companies have done recently. 48/32 quality crank and 11/34 cassette is good to see.
- the stack height is super low compared to so many gravel bikes. The XL frame has a 616mm stack and 402mm reach. This is even though Giant advertises a taller stack height than their TCX cyclocross frame and also call this endurance geometry.
thats an aggressive stack height compared to current trends.

Currently riding the TCX Advanced SX (2018) for gravel excursions (and road riding). I'm not at all interested in a change, just curious what the advantages of this bike would be for gravel versus my ride.

I've always liked the Revolt, Minus it being heavy and clunky feeling.

Will the diet to Carbon, (I read somewhere a sub 1100g frame ) with Carbon wheels make it feel better? Will the shorter rear help a lot with it feeling more lively over the old Revolt? Is even calling it a Revolt a good move for Giant?

Personally I can get over the looks. And this seems like an answer I am looking for. A Decent commute all around Daily ridden bike good for where ever I might want to go. Along with the Occasional on whim 2-3x a year over night or multi day light rides. Bolt on a Tubus front lowrider add Ortlieb gravel panniers and go.

Right. That isnt 'endurance geometry' when compared to pretty much the entire rest of the market, even though Giant calls it just that. And it has a taller stack height than their cyclocross frame?...good lord the stack on that must be really short.

The geometry isn't that far off of their competitors… All the data below is for my size – which is usually around size 56. The numbers are Stack / Reach = Ratio (sorted by ratio)…

66.0 / 56.8 = 1.44 Canyon Grail CF SL 7.0 (M)
57.8 / 38.9 = 1.50 Bianchi Impulso All Road 105 (570)
58.4 / 38.6 = 1.51 Ridley X-Trail Alloy 105 HDB (M)
58.5 / 38.7 = 1.51 Orbea Terra H30-D 19 (M)
58.6 / 38.7 = 1.51 Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 (56)
58.3 / 38.4 = 1.52 Specialized CruX Sport E5 (56)
59.5 / 39.2 = 1.52 Cannondale CAADX 105 SE or Ultegra (58)
58.8 / 38.5 = 1.53 Giant Revolt Advanced 2 (M/L)
59.2 / 38.5 = 1.54 Scott Speedster Gravel 10 Disc (L)
59.5 / 38.7 = 1.54 Jamis Renegade Exploit (56)
59.2 / 37.9 = 1.56 Fuji Jari 1.3 (L)
58.0 / 37.2 = 1.56 Seven Cycles Evergreen SL (54.5)
59.9 / 37.1 = 1.61 Diamondback Haanjo Trail (L)

Call it what you want, but those numbers are completely average.
