Thought I would upload my commuter again. Converted to fixed-gear last summer, but have not uploaded a picture of it since. Using Surly fixed-gear rear hub with 16t and 18t. Works nicely for commuting as well as the "wet" club ride on the weekends. Very versatile and enjoyable.

Thanks! Are those Zefals metal? Mine are Berthoud (sp?) stainless steel fenders, and yes it would be quite a PITA to move them from bike to bike. I got the 40mm but they also have a 50mm model. I got them from Wallingford online.

A couple of pics of my one-and-only bike, a 2006 Kona Smoke. Update from the pics I posted in June; now it actually looks like a commuter.





Usually I have a Cateye EL-300 for a headlight; right now it's some cheap off-brand light (left the cateye at college by accident). Rear light is a Cateye LD-120. Panniers are axiom appalachian/transit series. The yellow reflector and its partner red reflector (hidden under the panniers in those shots) were cannibalized off an old bike of my dad's.

First is my usual commuter and load hauler - Raleigh Royal tourer, but the original compact crankset made me feel like I was riding through mud, and the quill pedals hurt my feet, so I switched them out for a more recent Shimano roadie set. Underneath is my single speed Urban Assault commuter in progress. When finished, it'll be SS, and have a rack over those fairly wide 26" ers. Cool!

My commute includes singletrack, dirt roads, potholed pavement and moron mall traffic.
There is not one original part on my old '91 Raleigh Tangent.( oh wait, the headset is still going strong )

This turd would me my "commuter". Well as you can see it's a Roadmaster "Mt. Fury" Its just the regular genaric bike. I bought at the PX (army's version of big lots) for 35 bucks. It's an ok bike for my super short commute but the gearing is crap, your either peddling faster than **** our your break'n a sweat getting to speed. I really need to get me a nice road bike like most of you have but their hard to come by in Korea, their into mountain bikes it seems.

Pez, let me be the first to NOT call your bike a turd. for right now it seems to be doing what you ask of it. maybe not exactly how you want, but it's working. I've had 3 brand new bikes in my life. one when I was 6 that came from Toys R Us, another when I was 15 (another toys r us special) when my hand me down POS got trashed by a car. I just quit riding that one. and a Tandem made by Pacific Cycle that may have a lot of low end parts, but does what I need it to do, from Meijer. I have decent bikes, but they are all old and were junk when I got them. many of the bikes I own would be considered turds by those standards, but I love them all and they all have or had a purpose. The fact that you can get on that "turd" and ride it to work or wherever you need to go makes it not a turd at all. And if it can't be any more than a turd in your eyes or anyone else's I would like to be the first to say I love all the turds I've had and all the ones I will in the future.

I thought I would add my recent induction to my bike barn. The attached image is an early 90's restored Novara Randonee I had a friend build for me. It has full 105 components and is simply smooth like butta. I am commuting on it now, so it has the following added since this picture was taken:

- Brooks B-17 Champion saddle
- Rear Rack
- Trunk bag
- Sigma speed and cadence computer (wireless)
- Trail Rat light
- Blackburn handlebar mirror

[edit: It also has race blade fenders]

It is simply the best.

Ok ok I'm sorry but when I read that line I laughed so hard I think I pooped a little Anyway "turd" is a word I seem to use alot, maybe to often. That term was not saying my bike was a total peice of crap and I hated it. It just mean't it was sluggish and some what heavy, same with my VW Bus. But your right anything that can take me almost anywhere for free does deserve a better title than "turd".

Also I'm sorry but I have to use your line in my signature, it's just to priceless.

That bike is a turd. I've had one, and while it does get you from point A to point B, it's almost worthless to me now. Just like turd.

Yeah, it's pretty silly. I've taken the aerobar off, so it doesn't look quite as strange. I am probably going to get a real drop bar setup here soon. I keep wishing that I had bought a road bike, which I guess gives me more motivation to get a roadbike
