10 mile TT last night. I went out too hard and suffered badly 5 miles in. If you look closely, you might see my tears.

Ahh the tacoma twilight crit. that was so fun to watch. hopefully i can race it next year

I can finally join this discussion ... however, I would not have been in this position had the guy trailing me not lost the wheel of the guy he was following the previous lap...the main field pulled away like nothing I've ever seen.

I'm in the middle btw

from yesterday.

early(ish) in the race. i think.

the guy behind me is wearing the leaders jersey for a series of three races (this was the last of the three).

got into a break with him, and another guy - who happened to lap the field at the same race last year.

we were caught after +/-7 laps. half a lap later, a counter went.

a lap later, the guy who lapped the race last year tried to bridge up. i joined him.

i was cooked, and couldn't help much. we never caught the break, but the peloton never caught us.

Tour De Kale "Summit Challenge"
Start of the event. Not much suffering yet. But it will come. Oh yes. It will come. Just no videos or photos of the finish yet.

Team Fisher/Hincapie leading the charge in orange and black.
I'm in the mess somewhere and so is trukin.

trukin got 5th
I got 11th

No idea. More and more teams come out each year to get their man to the top.
Payouts are big and deep. Plus three other payouts to 3 more KOM climbs.
Plus they feed you until you get sick and pamper you like a darned king before after and during. Two feed-zone areas with musette bags for the lead group, wheel truck and motor cycle, the entire police and fire dept watching for us and stopping traffic, etc.

It's un-freaking-believable.

Charity Ride. They have 3 or 4 distances. Most of us non-billy-bobs chose the 135k summit challenge because that's where all the money is.
This thing, in all its glory, costs less than some sanctioned races I do.

This is the only one I know about. I know the guy that puts it on each year - awesome guy. He rids and trains with some of us throughout the year. He told me that it was going to be even better next year. This is the 11th year it has been held. You would not believe what all is involved. Even opening a gated community for us. That's where the final climb is.

I've done quite a few Charity Rides that have cash prizes for the top 3 or 5 finishers. There is one in E. Tex that does it every year. Cat 1's and 2's come from DFW to score some $ each year too.

here is an example: https://www.bicycletexas.com/tourdtrails.htm

doesn't the awarding of cash prizes reduce the total donation to the charity?

Ah, smart man.

Team Roaring Mouse, yellow/white/black kit, yellow/carbon Leopard bike. It would be cool to share all of the photos of our team with the guys, though, if that's alright.

wouldn't it also increase the amount of riders participating/entry fees, offsetting any "loss"?
