I have recently finished reading "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh" by Michael Chabon. This is highly recommended.
Yesterday I finished reading "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle". Much of it resonated with me because I am a "dog" person and I have deep family roots in the far north of Wisconsin.
Next I'm going to do a re-start on Dave Eggers "What is the What". I have read most if not all of his other stuff and enjoyed them greatly, but this one I put down and haven't picked up since. It is time to try again.

750 pages down, 400 left to go, and it's just getting good. My status won't be changing for a while.

"What is the What" was really good, I think it might be my favorite of Eggers' books.

props for reading books like that. i have The Road sitting on my bookshelf, but i've put it off for quite a bit as it's just depressing.

The Kite Runner didn't affect me as much because it was so terribly written, but I can appreciate why people like it.
I also liked Running with Scissors, and even enjoyed the movie, even though it gets a lot of ****.
Jesus, I read too much. Just finished Cocaine Nation: How the White Trade Took Over the World, by Thomas Feiling. It was pretty good, although you could pretty safely skip the middle 1/3 of the book and still get the point.

Trying to get through The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. It's tough, a bit over-simplified, but that may be because I'm a ~scientist.

The Road is completely brutal.
