Recovering stolen bikes would be beyond reason.
I did find a sistership of my original road bike from 1972 in a better size for me about 18 months ago. I will finish it this Summer.
My second road bike I sold off in 1976, and bought back in 1983. Still have it. Won a bunch of races on it.
My second track bike I still have, I doubt anyone would offer enough for it. That Confente guy built it.

There is a guy on The Cabe selling NOS Puegeot Rando looking type bikes from 73' or so. In the box unopened for $500. He has a few left. I'm sure someone here owned one of those.

I remember seeing it after one of several moves in a short period of time, I remember being sad and bummed about it - but what are the odds of there being TWO white 23-in Puch Royal Xs in the state of Georgia with that particular scar? It's MY bike.

I got this Legnano Roma Olympiade in 1964, as a 16 year old junior racer. I still have it, still ride it, still love it, 55 years later.

As far as whether or not a 20 year old, NIB score exists, I'd say how about 30? They're out there.
I found this near me, still in box, never assembled, ready to party like it's 1989.
'89 Puch Mistral Leader - 55cm. Columbus Cromor, "Quattro" mixed group. It appears to be a near clone of a Bianchi CdI (?). Beautiful ride. Brand new C&V!
The box had a red and black Sports Authority sticker on it.

My childhood bike was a Schwinn Stingray. Gold with a gold glitter banana seat. My teenage bike was a mid 70s Raleigh 3 speed bought new. Wish I still had the 3 speed. Sold it about 20 years ago when I barely rode but mostly ran. Would be a fun commuter and general all round town bike.

My second bike was a Kabuki ten speed, not sure of the model other than it it was light blue and had stem shifters and a Shimano Eagle derailleur. When an orange Kabuki Super Speed from the same era showed up at a local second hand shop for $15, I didn't hesitate to buy it. I have upgraded a few things, like aluminum wheels and cotterless crank, but it is essentially the same spirit as my old bike.

I cant ID my first road bike from an old Polaroid but can almost bet it was a junior from somewhere like Western Auto as I was 10. Bmx, I had tons, but only have one similar to my teens when freestyle blew up . May seek a DG sometime as that was an early one for me.
Very common for bmx guys to seek out childhood bikes with no expense spared.

If a bike (or something similar) of mine gets scratched or damaged, I usually console myself by saying that it is now unique, and that scratch/damage can be used as an identifying mark.

I have a similar story about a Gremlins lunch box (with thermos) I found in a second hand store about 5 miles from where I used to live. I was so excited, I bought it on the spot. It was my lunchbox. The dents in the corner, I put them there by banging it against the brick wall 'cause I was bored & tired of standing in line in kindergarten.
The odds of finding it 30 years later in a second hand store, (with the thermos!) must be staggering.

I was going to respond with my search for a Norco Bushpilot...It was unsuccessful, until I found one. I was proud I bought it with my own money from a paper route. But in retrospect, that thing was a hunk of junk. It is more than welcome to stay lost in the past.
After a long search I also once found rusted out lime green & yellow Schwinn Stingray just like the one I used to ride in kindergarten. The guy wanted $500 for it. I restored a Worksman Newsboy & outfitted it with drum brakes, 7 speed hub, a bannana seat and ape-hangers instead.

My first bike was a red single speed, probably a Huffy or Murray. My first road bike was a yellow Schwinn Continental, purchased with my own money when I was 12. I’ve had the opportunity to buy several yellow Continentals in recent years, but passed on them all. I may buy one yet, just for the heck of it.
I also had a red single speed dept. store bike as my 1st. When I went in for my first real bike store bike to be bought with my money, I had a choice between the Schwinn brand that I knew and some of the lighter import brands. I went with the good recommendation of the store for a entry level Fuji in a 27" frame that would fit me better than the 26" Varsity, as well as being much lighter. I still always wanted a Schwinn and this spring found an almost mint large size Continental that I documented with a C&V thread citing Sheldon Brown's article about how well made and important entry level Schwinn road bikes were to the American bike boom. I'm loving my 38 lb. Continental - hope to see pics of that yellow one soon.From last nights ride
