Seller had this on eBay for 599, no bids, called and bought it for 500. This was 2 years ago, bike was flawless, the one you are looking at ain’t. Doubt I could get any more for it now, good luck and Semper Fi. Tim

It might have been a nice bike bike at one time but it looks like a project now. You know the drill it needs a full overhaul, cables, tires, tape and hoods not to mention a saddle. I wonder if the stem and post even move.
Personally I wait this out. If someone else buys it in the next week good on them but if it languishes maybe you can talk the seller down to something reasonable.

He wanted offers, so I offered $100. I won’t go any higher.

He's right ya know, and for that lowball offer I wouldn't have even replied to you. I understand wanting to get a deal, and it's difficult to judge where a "make offer" guy sits, but come on, $100? The rear der and shifters are almost worth that (I'm presuming you'd be parting it out and flipping it).
If that were my size you'd have already been a couple behind.

I know it’s worth more, but an auction on Craigslist is just as bad as my low ball offer.

I hope he’s not expecting any offers over 300, cause I doubt he’ll get any. That bike was ridden hard, and put away wet. Even though it’s the top Trek in 77, with a frame that could have been welded by Mike Appel, they just don’t command even half, of what the top Schwinns, from the same era, go for.

It belonged to his brother who was the bike guy, the seller is not. I think he’s hoping to get rich off the sale.

For a triple dot lugged Trek in really nice shape anything under $300 is a good deal.

I bought this bike and it turned out to be in surprisingly good shape. All bearing cups and cones are clean and not pitted. Stem and seatpost were not seized. The frame and fork straight and dent free. Seller is a great guy and I was very happy to hand him my money for this bike. I just finished completely overhauling and replaced the 27in rims with some MA40 Clincher rims, laced to the original high flange campy hubs. Fortunately I had some long reach nuovo record brake calipers in my parts bin, the included brakes were too short to work with 700c. I have no intentions of ever selling this and plan to ride and enjoy it for many years to come.

Beautiful bike. I'd pay $500 for one in this condition. Heck I paid $300 for one with a campy group that needed a paint job.

The bottle/cage are $75. Looks like it has a brooks. The repaint is unfortunate...but if you put that for $300 near me, you'd be 20 deep in an hour.

A more recent photo
Even more then that if new in the box, I use that bottle cage set-up, on most of my builds, so have enough for 3 more. Sold the rims and saddle to other forum members, and replaced with 27” Super Champion Gentleman clinchers, and a leather Vetta, respectively. Actually the paint, while not original, is very nice, as It was done by Trek in Waterloo quite a few years ago. and PO had the receipt to prove it.
