Hello.

My brake disk came off and severed the cable on my haven't 1500v wheel. I replaced the whole cable but still the bike has problems. When switched on the error 7 shows on the display, indicating there is a problem with the hall sensor. I thought that replacing the cable would resolve this but didn't?

The wheel will turn when throttle is applied but only if it is moving, and then will only spin while making a clunking noise for a few seconds before it stops administering power. If you release the throttle and then repeat the process before the wheel stops it will again spin for a few seconds.

The three motor phase wires are switching the full battery voltage across the motor while the Hall sensors are powered by only 5 volts. During the time while your brake disk was sawing thru the cable, it probably short circuited the battery voltage across one or more of the three hall sensors inside the motor casing, blowing them out.

Someone has to take off the side cover of the motor and replace the sensors. All motors are different, so maybe someone already did it on your motor and posted a youtube video.

Hi and thanks so much. I took the bike to a bike shop and we opened up both sides of the motor. There wasn't much inside besides a small circuit board on one side. I didn't see any sensors at all on either side. I'll have a look around for the manual online, it's a befang 1500v. Your explanation sounds like it could be the problem as it's intermittently getting power, which is what's making the noise.

Some questions please that may help me.
1. Are these sensors easily found and replaced?
2. What is an average estimated cost?
3. Would it be possible to use a generic sensor? Are they universal?
4. As I'm new here I'm unable to post links but did you find and watch the video I uploaded to YouTube?

I can't afford to spend money on hotels much longer while I wait for parts. The bike s a 3 wheeler and is custom made by me. It has a trailer which carries my rucksack and dog and cost around €1500 to build. Ill upload pictures if I ever get it going but time is short and I'll be devastated to have to just leave it behind.

Sensors look like this when not attached. Nothing special. Electrical places should carry them.

In the above video they were on the circuit board.

Edit: Some motors have no Hall sensors. If your motor only has three heavy wires going to it, or only two heavy wires, then it doesn't use them. Motors that use Hall sensors will have 3 heavy wires and 5-6 thinner ones.

Hi my YouTube name is Henryparsnip. I think the information you have given me has a good chance of resolving the issue. I've done my own research and everything seems to point in the same direction. I can't thank you enough for this. I'm back at the bike shop Monday when they reopen, they have been very helpful. Hopefully with their skill and the information you have provided I may be back on the road. From what I've learnt theses sensors can be very temprimental, fail due to excessive heat, difficult to line up in the correct place but are far more efficient than a brush motor.

Would there be a way to fix the motor if there are no hall sensors? It's going to take 4 to 5 days to get these sensors delivered, I really hope this works.

By the way, hope it is not the controller that failed. That could also happen of the wires crossed, but might be easier to replace.

Sorry for the delay, I'm also limited to the number of times I may post in a 24 HR period.

I'm currently at a bike shop ready to order some parts. The voltage on the battery is reading 54v. Next is to check the hall sensors. I really hope I can fix this.

Cheers, any other thoughts after watching it? I ordered 5 hall sensors today. 3.8 - 30v ( or is it amps )I found 2 of them stuck at 3v and not resetting to zero. There was no part number on the sensor I removed leaving me to guess from the shape , size and voltage which to take. Travelled 30 km to the shop only to find they only had 1 in stock, I needed 2. Put an order in and hopefully DHL will drop them off in the morning. Fingers crossed.

Just looked on the website of the place I bought the sensors and noticed there are a few sorts.

I had no idea which to get. One is bipolar and the other is unipolar. As I don't have any part numbers or schematics m basically guessing. Sigh

You probably ordered something like the SS411A which is a little more tolerant for the power supply voltage, 3.8-30V,

An operating range of 3.8-30 is fine.

Does it matter if it's bipolar or unipolar? These befang parts had no markings on them whatsoever. I guess I'll find out today. Not looking forward to soldering these tiny things, any tips on that?

Thank you for all the help you gave me Dr. I changed 3 tiny sensors the size of a grain of rice and now it works.
