The only real pet peeve I could come up with are how some people on MUP's will stop dead in the middle of the path to look at their phone, map, whatever and be oblivious to anything around them. They don't even move when you go around them. I haven't seen an accident from this yet but I'm sure I will eventually.

My pet peeve is cyclists who ride two or more abreast on roads where they damned well ought to be single file. Saw two roadies doing this on the way home from work today and if I hadn't been in a rush to get home so I could go ride myself I'd have pulled them over and chewed them a new one each. Courtesy is a two way street.

"Snobbish" cyclists. Yes, really. My son is just beginning to try bicycle racing, and all he has is an aluminum frame CF fork bike. He was basically made fun of by others in his most recent race. All others had CF frame "wonder" bikes. This is just class 5 racing...about the lowest level you can start at. So yea...bike snobs. Go eff yourselves.

Back on track... Suicide squirrels determined to commit the act in the spokes of your front wheel.

Idiots that'll just about hyperventilate to pass you, and then can't make the pass stick.
That just happened about an hour ago to me. This maroon passed me on a bridge, on a mup, and barely got around me before someone came the other way. I was riding a gear I thought was plenty fast given the conditions, and just like I thought would happen, I was on his back wheel in less than a mile when he gassed out. By that time we were past the usual congestion areas, so I rode around him, and to make sure it stuck I shifted to a "more appropriate gear" given the circumstances.
It's just a little moral victory.

My pet peeve would probably be the snobs that think unless your are riding a $5000 plus DF bike in full kit, you are not a cyclist.

People who pass on the right (up the inside) on the MUP.

Low hanging tree branches on trails. Not a problem for most people, but if you're taller they're usually not trimmed up enough. The helmet comes in handy at times.

I really enjoy riding and it took me some time to think about a peeve but I guess I have one...
People who stop and then just sit in the middle of the bike path without any regards to the other riders. Pull over and move to the side!

After 33 seasons and just under 200,000 recorded miles, I can't think of any pet peeves.

No peeves here, just the enjoyment of riding in small town on good asphalt with not too much traffic.

Now that I think about it:
People taking up the left side of an MUP with earphones blasting music in their ear oblivious to anything around them, making me pass them on the right.

Tell your son to keep riding what he's got. In no Cat 4 or 5 race I have ever seen has equipment been decisive. And nobody will be laughing when he wins.

Just to add my voice to the chorus on this, there is zero disadvantage to racing an alu bike. And to be honest, I'm surprised: in my experience the racing crowd are much less likely to be equipment snobs than are the weekend warrior poseurs.

Wrong way riders, cars that stick their nose into the bike lane while waiting to exit a parking lot or side street, stray iguanas.

Strangers who drop in behind and draft off of me while riding on a MUP.
Joggers using iPods who yell at me for not yelling out to them that I'm passing...even though I did and they couldn't hear me.

Pet peeve? That I suck so badly!
Beyond that, I have no excuse to complain.

I still ride a basic (but upgraded) WalMart style bike, a Schwinn Alum Comp MTB that my brother-in-law gave me. I ride the hell out of that bike no matter what, no matter where. Mountain biking, general neighborhood 5 mile cruises, or longer 23+ mile rides into the next town. I get stared at by roadies in full kits on their $8000 Cannondale or Specialized or whatever flavor of high priced bike, as they blow by me at like 35-40mph. At least I'm out there riding and enjoying myself. I have no desire to try to get from point A to point B in the fastest way possible. I want to get out there and have a good time, enjoy the scenery, and be able to ride long distances without trouble.
Will I get a road bike? Yes, eventually. I am saving up for one as I write this. Once I turn into a roadie instead of a MTBer or whatever type of rider, would I wear a full kit? Not if I can help it! I don't want anyone to see my "junk" through a pair of skin tight bicycle pants. Sorry... ain't gonna happen! Most importantly, would I turn into a "bike snob"?? NEVER! I know where I came from, know the meaning of a dollar, and am humble and down to earth. I would never look down upon someone - it's not who I am....
