AMF Black Gold
Saw this at an auction house. It is up for sale this week and I was wondering if it was worth bidding on. I looked it over, and it's in remarkably good shape. No rust, brakes and derailleurs seem to work (I did not get to ride it around, just move the fiddly bits). It's not light, but also not a tank. Looks like it could be a fun project bike.

Stem shifters, steel wheels, center pull brakes. I'd pass. Really not worth any investment. IMO, in perfect condition, it's a $75 bike.

It’s AMF! With the exception of bowling pin machines, everything with that label is crap. Seller would have to pay me a considerable amount, just to move it to where it belongs, the dump!

Hmmm...
I'm sensing a theme here.
Thanks guys. It probably only looked good because it was sitting nest to a Free Spirit of the same era.

The only semi good thing AMF made bike related was the advertising with Evil Knieval.

Back in the day, I actually owned one of those. I won it in a contest about 1980. I gave it away as it was awful. These bikes are heavy, low tech, undesirable pieces of crap.
The one in this thread thankfully has had the dreadful Quick Shift shifters replaced. Our friends at BBB are offering one at the laughable price of $475.
