Alias V Talon

hi people,

i've been searching these forums for a good little while now helping me find the ideal upgrade hardtail - i'm coming off a 4yr old Giant Rincon. i'm looking for value for money and around 1000 dollars for a little all round/XC machine. - it won't be hitting big drops, but it will be climbing hills

i've rounded it down to two - with the prices i can get them for - new:

Giant Alias - $AU800
Giant Talon - $AU1040

everyone seems to be giving the alias a big wrap (except brakes) and i'd just like to know if its worth spending the additional $240 to get the talon, has the thicker forks, some easton stuff, LX/Deore instead of X7/Deore and the HFX9 brakes instead of the soles.

i'm kinda into the Giants - cause a bike shop near me sells them all for 20% off.

So - should i stick with the Alias - which MBA gave a big wrap, or spend the extra for the talon?

thanks heaps for your input.

Yes definatley spend the extra for the Talon.

The Alias (are you sure its $800?) has been renowned for being the best bang for the buck, of all bikes in its price range. However, you get what you pay for, and since both bikes are from Giant, i'd recommened the Talon, bigger improvement espcially with the brakes and fork!

They will both do the same thing, but you'll be much happier spending that extra $240 on the better bike. The Soles are hopeless, HFX9's much better.

yeah - definitly alias = $au800. - a big LBS sells all giants (road and MTB) for 20% off all year round... really handy.. i buy my bikes there (third one) then get my own LBS to service and maintain it.

Considering Giants are already cheap, getting 20% all year round is even better!

Go for the Talon!

I bought an '06 Alias about 5 months ago and I wished I had of got the next model up, just for the better brakes and fork. The Soles are pretty average. Worked well at first but degraded pretty quickly and became rather noisy.
