Rim has eyelets.....but eyelets too small for 13G spoke nipples.
Is there an easy way to remove eyelets so I can drill existing nipple holes wider (may not even need to once eyelets gone)?
Rim is a 20" 36H Sun Ringle Rhyno Lite XL.

Since the eyelets may be stainless steel, you may need a cobalt drill bit but you could try a "high speed steel" bit first which are cheap and available at any hardware store.

pullings , I was just thinking about what I wrote in the previous post.
You may need to start with a drill bit that is only slightly larger than the eyelet hole and then gradually increase the bit size untill the eyelet falls out. Using a larger drill bit from the start as I had suggested, may grab the eyelet and spin it making it much more difficult to remove.

If you feel compelled to remove the eyelets, you might want to check the numerous recent threads about washers. They probably didn't put the eyelets there just for decoration.

+1 The eyelets are there because the rim material is thin enough that spokes will very likely cause cracking without them. There are rims without the eyelets but those rims have more material in way of the spoke holes.

I need an e-bike 20" 36H rim. Preferably one that can take 5mm nipples. My old tried-and-true source Crystalyte 20" ebike rims are nowhere to be found.

Don't drill out the eyelets, get the correct spokes/nipples.
From the SunRingle website:Eyelets are pressed into rim spoke holes for reinforcement as a way to obtain even spoke tensions during wheel building. Eyelets also reinforce the rim spoke face area at the nipple contact point. There are two types of eyelets: single or double. Eyelets are typically made of nickel-plated brass but can also be plated mild steel and stainless steel.
Eyelets achieve even spoke tension by reducing the friction of turning the nipple. Without an eyelet, there is a high resistance to turning the nipple against the sharp, softer edge of the aluminum spoke hole. This problem is especially evident when spoke tension is being set with nipple torque reading devices. Eyelets are usually inserted in the rim after any finishing processes.
