New UK member here - originally from West Yorkshire and now in Surrey, via Johannesburg.

I had a blinding flash of comprehension a few years ago when I realised that a really good old bike can be better than a decent-ish new one. I also love the conversations they start at cafes.

Hi Laura -

That's great - can't wait to see the pictures and follow the restoration.

Hi and welcome here.
That's some indirect route from West Yorkshire to Surrey .
That's what you get when you put in 'avoiding tolls' into Google Maps route finder!
How long did it take for you to cycle that?

Regards,
Robin.

Hi Laura and welcome.
Yes can be annoying, that.
You need help;
We want to help;
Can't post photos to complete the loop.
Ah well, I suppose it's to prevent unwelcome misuse of the forum.
You'll also find you can't post more than 4 (or is it 5?) messages in a rolling 24hrs, so it takes a while to get your score up.
Best regards,
Robin.

Hi good peeps, another Uker here (Bonny Scotland) . Just like Laura I have a barn find and want to post pics but have just joined so can't post photos yet. The bike frame is really perplexing. It is a vintage shopper/folder but has the weirdest rear frame section I have ever seen. The rear "forks"/braces are not welded to the seat post at the top like any normal bike I but are detached and have a bracket where I presume a bolt goes to join it all up. So as well as tightening the saddle pole in the seat post you also tighten the whole rear of the bike, or the top of the rear "forks" remain loose. Why this would be so is a mystery. I can't see what the thinking was behind it. I don't know what kind of bike it is as someone debadged it and started sanding it before presumably losing interest and I found it years later when tidying someone's barn. It's got surface rust but seems solid and I'd like to renovate it.

I'm in exactly the same situation, Laura. I have a barn find that I would love to find out more about. Someone started to sand the frame before dumping/stashing it - thus leaving it with no badges or decals, just a weird frame. Aargh!

That was in reference to Laroldino's cryptic "I am" post, in case I confused anyone!

Ah well, another post towards the mandatory "photo" submission total...

Newcastle here, trying to get back in to cycling this year. I need to read through this thread, but would appreciate recommendations on reliable LBS for servicing, parts etc.

Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire here. I’ve a number of bikes, from Brompton to Boardman and Specialized road bikes (and a couple of off road hybrids). Love riding, and also doing bike mechanics.
Like others, also want to get my post-count up, so I can post photos on the things I need help with.

From London, ride gravel and the occasional long distance road adventure. London to Istanbul last year, the East Coast of the US the year before, waiting for the next opportunity!

Hello from Hertfordshire, St. Albans area. Currently trying to get my mileage back up after a knee problem last year and currently dealing with a shoulder ligament issue (the joys of growing old!). Looking to ride Velo Retro in the Lake District this September and hopefully Eroica Limburg too, both postponed from last year.

UK here too. Living in W. London. Not ridden in twenty years since brain injury but recently came into possession of a Bianchi frame to be rebuilt with Campag parts and used when illness permits. Decades ago, put in many serious road miles in E.Yorks on a variety of decent machinery and, when working in London, diced with the traffic daily.
