Do you consider a discarded banana peel to be litter?
I usually carry at least two bananas with me on rides I intend to last more than three hours. Peels get tossed in the bushes as I pedal along. I do not, however, toss any cliff bar wrappers, GU packages, or anything else. Maybe a apple or pear core now and again on the rare occurrence that I take one on the ride.
Am I littering?

In my opinion Yes. Even though I do realize it is biodegradable a banana peel thrown on the side of the road is still an eyesore

If it's thrown inconspicuously into the bushes, then I say you're helping the envoronment. If you throw it on someone's front lawn, it's littering.

to me, yes, it's still littering.
I carry my banana in a small plastic bag (the kind grocery stores give you to put produce in), and after eating it, I wrap it up and stick it back into my jersey pocket. that way the banana peel isn't staining my jersey...and the people behind don't smell bananas the rest of the way.

If it is just in some farm field or something, or a ditch, then no problem. Road, sidewalk, someone's yard - no good.

Tossing it in the woods along a country road- no.
Tossing it in someone's manicured front yard in a neighborhood- yes.

No.
I wouldnt throw it on someones lawn, but in the bushes or woods or the side of a country road? Sure. It doesn't hurt anyone, and will be gone quickly anyway.

This is very much a Spirit vs Letter of the law thing.
Absolutely it is littering by the letter of the law.
But if the action does not have a negative impact on anyone, should we really care? No, we shouldn't.
For me, I will discard fruit rinds/cores/peels and will pour out drinks as well. Only in DISCREET, non-private property locations. (Or at least I try to. I've probably launched something on private property, but not in an obviously visable or trafficed area)
Ticket me.

Like others say - if inconspicuously tossed in the bushes, etc, it's not littering - it's recycling.
And I don't even blow snot rockets if in front of a house or business.
I wonder if any of the folks against this ever pee outside? I wonder if they consider it discharging raw sewage?

As a fella who lives on one of those "back country roads", please feel free to throw your banana peels, apple cores and the like in our ditch. Please keep your tires, hot water heaters, and sofas at your house.

Not littering IMO, as long as it's someplace "wild".
I'd prefer that over you taking it home and putting it in the trash to go to a landfill.
I guess you could take it home and throw it in your own yard, that's fine with me

we have this debate and problem in Australia, only thing is in rural areas it brings kangaroos and other wildlife to the road to find food. Hitting even a smallish roo at 100kmph will usually total a car.
I actually peel the thing in my driveway and throw the peel in my own garden berfore setting off slowly and enjoying a snack.
here is what a roo can do, tow was a total mess writen-off

You would think that the plumbing only came midway into the front yard with all the washing machines you see there.

Technically a banana peel is biodegradable so not harmful to the environment. If you are the only one doing it it will be unnoticed and not an issue but imagine dozens, or hundreds, or even thousands of us doing the same thing. Not so good!
We then have to hire people to clean after us, this means more taxes or less money for important things such as safety, good roads, schools, healthcare...
What about somebody tripping on it? Lawyers would go after the local government agency for damages thus more of the above.
Isn't what we are all going through now? Paying taxes and seeing services go down the drain because too many of us don't take responsibility for their actions.

Better to have it biodegrade/feed some creatures along the side of the road than wind up in a landfill. Way better.
