Thanks all...it’s a bit large, but it’s so exceptional. I’m 99% out of the acquisition game, but when something like this comes along...
This hits a lot of my boxes in what I consider a beauty, and the Omas bits didn’t hurt things.
The way cdm has this set up is perfection, but I have to put my mark on it somehow. I have a yellow regal girardi that I’m going to swap in, and might change the bottle cage. Other than that, not much that could be done to improve it.

Thanks BG - Ortelli was a competitor of Bartalli, and he made some pretty machines. Somewhat similar in feel to patelli.

How about some North Road bars and a Sturmey-Archer AW hub?

I save those for the De Rosas.
i have to get rid of that Rudge Pathfinder; I hate having my stable polluted by IGH.

Had to google this/him due to the unfamiliar name and place (Faenza, turns out to be right in the Emilia-Romagna, close to Ravenna and Bologna) and Vito Ortelli, racer who rode in same era (and races) as Bartali and Coppi but was not the WINNER of the Giro in 1946-47 so unclear what the band on the downtube is proclaiming. Doubt that he was building frames under his name at the the height of his riding career, right?
Ah, he WAS Italian National road race Champ, but that was in 1948...Coppi won in 1947 and 1949

Very nice bike, Aaron. Beautiful details.
I think a Cinelli SC seat binder bolt would perhaps fit nicely. The bolt head on the one that's on there bugs me.
Other than that... perfection.

Whoever put that on there should be flogged, especially if they absconded with something original or very correct for this.

Yeah - a Cinelli would definitely look right, and I likely have a few in reserve (though whether I can locate them is another question). As far as the frame, it really is a remarkable bit of craft.

Lovely!
The name "Ortelli" rang a bell: A lovely Saturday morning at the LBS
BTW, I've met the owner of that Ortelli many times since. These days he organizes his own C&V event, and a nice one at that. For anyone who's in the neighborhood: Retro Bike Fair Amsterdam

I would think by hand. Engravings like this can also be found in the work of some other builders from the region (Patelli and Virginia). I've seen direct on the tube engraving done by Grandis, but not to this extent, and not as ornate. CDM thought it likely that the same person did the engraving for the other builders as well.

OMAS really makes some beautiful stuff...I really like the milling on the crank.

Very nice addition to your already fantastical collection. I particularly admire the bevel-finish on the rear dropouts (at the triangular windows). Very few builders put much effort into cleaning this area up to the extent Ortelli did here. Of course, the scrolling details and engravings are the icing on the cake.

A real beauty. Easy to gush about. Those seat stays are enough all by themselves, to make the bike extraordinary. And then there is all the rest of it.
As others mentioned, the seat post bolt doesn't belong on such an elegant bike. (Not that it's a bad looking bolt, polished flat and countersunk in a seatcluster, sweet!) I also don't see the milling on the chainrings or the shifters as being original to this bike. I'm not very familiar with Ortellis, but I would have expected the rings to have more delicacy, and detail, rather than simply heavily milled( again not that I don't like the chain rings. I do, just on a less finely detailed bike, not here. The shifters, look modern, in comparison, looking at the terrific headset... I'm quibbling, and obviously, I could be wrong. Beautiful bike.
