I've started using a handlebar bag on one of my bikes, and am loving it ! It holds my spare parts, tools, and has room for a sandwich and spare clothing.

With this bag, I have no need for jersey pockets. I know that pockets don't really detract from a jersey - I can just leave 'em empty. But, does anyone know of a good jersey without pockets?

Track racing jerseys don't have pockets. Try a search for them. Kucharik used to make them for our team back in the day. They might still have them. To me not having pockets felt weird.

Just wear a technical wicking base layer? To me the only benefit of actual jerseys is pockets.

I think jerseys without pockets are called "shirts." Technical fabrics, short and long sleeve are available everywhere. I tend to favor hi-viz varieties.

Seriously, isn't the only real reason for wearing jerseys the pockets? Otherwise you can wear just about anything.

Some mountain bike jerseys don't have pockets, I have a few Fox Indicator Jerseys that are pocketless

If you don't want pockets, just wear a shirt. Literally whatever shirt you'd like.

Yes, you can wear anything, and pockets are a major reason, but not the only one. A good jersey is cut to fit when you are in a riding position.

Just get some Champion or similar wicking fabric tees. Champion Vapor short and long sleeve tees are great. Lighter weight than jerseys, UV protection in summer, warm in cool weather, dry quickly and resist body odor funk.

I wear mine as base layers in cool weather and tops in summer when I'm on my hybrid with panniers or handlebar bag. Usually I wear my cycling jerseys only on my road bike.

If you commute, just hang it somewhere to air dry and it'll be dry by the time you're ready to go home. If you have time, you can hand wash it quickly in a sink. Wring it out, hang to dry near some air flow.

Yep, there are some new synthetic Dri-Fit T-Shirts that work well for me Avoid the ones with large open loop stitching. They snag and run pretty badly.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, folks!

I thought about wicking shirts, of course...But they lack some nice features of proper cycling jerseys, such as sleeker fit and zippers for ventilation.

Just buy a size down from where you'd normally be, and you'll have that tighter fit of a jersey.

And re-hem it so it is shorter in front and longer in the back.

And let out the sleeves so they reach your wrists when you are in a riding position.

Bing, bang, boom. Exactly like a jersey.

From the responses, I am guessing that there are few options, though I will look into MTB and track jerseys.

The LBS has Voler mtb jerseys with no pockets. Their justification is that mtb'ers use hydration packs, so pockets are a waste. I prefer to have nothing in my pockets, but I like to have the pockets just in case. the pocketless jerseys are no cheaper

Even when I take the bar bag, jersey pockets are still useful for little things like carrying bike gloves out to the garage, or dumping change when I buy a snack on the road.


Even without those uses, I'd rather wear a jersey than a shirt for the ventilation adjustment the zipper provides. Just MHO, of course.

When I started Mtn biking, I found all kinds of Reebok, Under Armor, Nike, etc, synthetic fiber/athletic type shirts at the local Marshalls. That's what I wore. When I started road biking, I bought jerseys for the pockets. I don't have any interest in looking like a wannabe racer so as of right now, I don't own anything other than basic hi-vis jerseys with no markings/logos.

Recumbent jerseys often don't have pockets. Some have pockets in the front.
