To fit myself, well, I've got a lot of room right now but hope to trade myself in for a smaller size.

I normally ride 5 or more times a week to keep fit when the weather's nice. If not, I have a trainer I can put the bike on, but lately I've been a bit lazy about using it.

cycling for fitness? vs bike fitting..

Original title is Rather ambiguous use of the language; ESL?
bike fitting, how you are choosing your parts selection, in relation to the bike you have.

is separate from ..cycling for fitness, which is the effort you put out going somewhere..

I assume you mean fitness..

you can commute, run errands or just go sightseeing on your bicycle , all help.

just don't get hit.. that is not going to help your health..

..

I am on my bike most days, usually 6 days out of 7. If I'm off the bike for more than 3 days, I can feel the loss of fitness.

I ride every day, but specifically for fitness a long ride during the weekend (when it's not winter), and maybe a couple of times during the week. I've sort of segregated it now, running purely for fitness (4 or 5 times per week) and riding for mostly other reasons (about 100 miles per week)

I bike to work 3-4 days a week, with a weekend ride or two. Although I enjoy it, my main goal is fitness

I generally try to get out at least 5 days a week, even in the winter unless weather/roads are really bad. Although, don't do my "long" ride in the winter. Day after long ride in the spring through the fall is usually lawn mowing day. I've cut down on lawn mowing needs by not putting down fertilizer and not watering it. My yard looks awful but saves me some time during peak riding season

Grocery shopping almost every day from 3 to 10 miles round trip.

Actual ride after kitting-up usually 3/week with an occasional 4th ride.

A few times a week. About 400 miles a month, between recreational rides and errands.

I don't think of cycling as exercise, because exercise sucks and takes away the real purpose of our fantastic freedom machines.
I ride everyday that I don't have to worry about ice on the ground. The car doesn't get much use from late February until early November.
If I rode to be fit, that would ruin the experience.

I usually don't go into bike-fitting. I have the bikes I got and adjust the handlebars and seats to fit me. And once it's done that's it.

For cycling, I go out everyday because I don't want to use my car when my bike can do the job.

For fitness I run, depends on what shift I am on but aim for 30-40 miles per week. It's really helped my fitness. I didn't notice much difference when I started adding cycling into the mix, but I don't do it as much and typically just in the warmer months.

I started because I wanted exercise. I've done other stuff over the years and it was never sustainable because it was work and it sucked. Started riding the bike and immediately saw benefit to my high cholesterol and blood pressure (all normal range numbers now.) I haven't lost a lick of weight because of cycling. Lost 40 lb. from eating better, but then fell out of that and gained it back.

Then I got divorced. And friendships started coming back to me. And I started going on 60-70 mile weekend rides and every now and then 25-30 mile after work rides. I use to ride 12 miles on the Allegheny River Trail for the exercise. I try to ride every day I can, but I find myself doing that less and less since I now have time to cook for myself (wife always had dinner ready every night), I have to leave my little crap-hole place to do laundry for hours, stuff like that. I went on my first 5 day trip last year that was so awesome I went with the same people 2 weeks later for 7 days. Now all I think about is going out on the weekends and riding 60+ miles with friends and week long trips in the summer. The daily rides tapered down to nearly nothing last year. It's no longer about exercise. It's about the riding, about the touring, and mostly about getting together with great friends and having a great time vs. being at home after an hour riding and getting berated and screamed at by someone who became a completely different person than I once loved.

I do have a daily destination now. Use to drive to the trail and ride for an hour or just ride a couple circle routes around the house but mostly on gravel. Now I love to pack up dinner and ride out to the lake from where I'm now at to eat then ride home after eating and watching the water fowl for an hour.

Greatstory and good to hear things are looking better after your divorce. My ex would never like the idea of me having fun without her(but she never wanted to do any of the active things I wanted todo) I love the longer rides and actually taking trips versus just ridingto ride but I find I have less opportunity now to get away as I have my sonsolo (and no local friends or family to take him), so mostly just shorter tripsfor me for a few more years except for when he spends a day at his friends orsomething, and even then not like I can get away for a week or even few days despite having aweek off every 5 weeks (I work a shift rotation) plus a couple/few 3 week and 2week breaks in summer. Having friends that ride would be great, I don't have a single friend that rides bike, and only 1 that runs (we do a long run together every week or two).

Aboutlosing weight though... I lost the most amount of weight per time period not byexercising or changes in diet, but when I started cutting my own firewood toheat my home actually. It's a lot of work! Saved lots of money compared topropane and much more satisfying! Running took me down a little more & now just keeps me around where I am at.

I ride everyday, sometime twice and even three times. Today I rode at lunch, 21miles outdoors, then I taught class, indoor cycling later in the afternoon. So there is twice. I think I am hooked. It makes you feel good about yourself and feels great.
