Guess I'm an old timer returning...

Haven't biked in 30 years. I'm 56, and someone gave me an old 12 speed mountain bike. Now, I did smoke for 40 years, and am now smoke free for 4 years, so I am much more active now than I have been in years.
But this bike made me a bit nuts. It had sat for 10 years before I got it, and had hard use before that. Well, several hundred dollars later, I have a nearly shiny bike ready to ride. Took solvents, buying a lot of tools,
including 2 cone wrenches and a spoke wrench and a set of flat wrenches and a metric socket set. Still have to take it in to fix a bit of slack in the pedal axle, and replace 3 spokes that I'm not sure of the size of.
Just put brand new tires and tubes on it, and replaced both brake lines, so I think it's safe enough to ride to town to a bike shop. What is this craziness I seem to be suddenly addicted to?

Here's some progress on ugly betty... modern derailleurs, new brakes, bb rebuilt, modern 7 speed freewheel, new chainwheel, new shifters and levers ect, this shows the drivetrain along with a new x8.99 chain:

Those look like road calipers? Did you pair them with canti levers vs V-brake levers? V-brakes use a different pull ratio and if you have the wrong levers to go with the calipers, you'll lose braking capabilty.

And no, all side pull brakes, with wet compound brake pads.
And yeah, took me a while to finish... just stripped to metal, treated it for rust, primed and repainted last week.

Thanks guys... took me a year to finish this darn thing. The paint job is not great, but I didn't expect it to be for my first time spray painting a bike. I'm more happy I made sure the frame is rust free. So
a second paint job is probably in the future. This was hard work for me... I was a computer tech for 20 years, and bad at mechanics. I had to learn how to work on bikes... spend 600 in tools to work on them.
But now I can rip apart any part of my bike and put it back together in short order! It was a great learning experience, and now I love my bike and it's all I use to get around.

Hey guys, just got myself a winter bike, don't want to run my vintage bike over the winter. Found myself a used Giant Trance 4. Anyone know what year this is?

I'm acutally turning 58 this month. But still would like to know what year Giant I got!
Edit: might help if I mention it's 26" but adult, so I know it's older.
