Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I do think it is a heck-of-a-lot shorter than the chain that came installed on it when I bought the bike.

Of course that chain would slap the chainstay on the smallest bumps in the 39 ring...

If you had reused a chain from a 50T compact setup that was sized using the same method you would not have had enough chain. You properly sized a new chain so no worries. Relax - go ride

I could use a quick grocery getter type bike and the TCR would be just that. Couple questions:

What SS conversion kit did you use?
How are the Titan wheels?

I think the SS BMC is pretty cool, though it would be better with drop bars.

P.S. Road bikes don't need to have gears.

Later.

Is that the bike you built your dad a while back or is it a new ride for yourself?

rob (flame suit on)

You should also get:
A flame suit for me
2 or 3 8-speed connectors 16793-39187
Problem Savers brand special chainring bolts or some chainring spacers 22295-51191

I've only been out on one short slow ride due to crappy weather, so I'll have to get back to you on the wheels.

Wow those have got to be the highest bars I've ever seen on a road bike.

I'll let others point out all of the things wrong with the picture...

That's how I build all the road bikes at my shop. Stem up, on top of spacers. Most people want it flipped up anyway, so it's easier to do before and not while they are waiting.

They're even higher than mine were on a bike that was way too big for me (which is most of why I sold it):

What, the fact that there are some serious fixed gear riders out there who display great conditioning, and bike handling skills on the road (and I'm not referring to tricksters and hipsters)? More than half of what this forum is all about is "how to girl up my road bike" with fancy and lightweight stuff, so what's the beef about that fixed BMC?

I ride with a lot of strong guys on fg bikes. Thing is, most of them (not all) want a geared bike but lack of money keep them riding fixed. To take a perfectly good, brand new, geared bike and make it SS, even to them is dumb.
