Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With all the steel bikes posted recently, I thought I'd post my two road bikes. They were both built from framesets, and have 10s drivetrains.

I <3 Strava. Their Mobile app is free, as is their unlimited upload plan on their site. You can pay for premium and get better metrics analysis (I do, I like to see my 2,3,5,10, and 30 minute power.)

I bought this a few weeks ago.

I had been riding a cheap mountain bike on the road so this is quite a step up from that even if it is an entry level CF bike. The shifters, rear derailleur, seat post, neck, handle bars, and wheels/tires have been upgraded.

Quite a bit smoother, faster ride from a MTB. -- I bet you feel like you are floating on air in comparison!

Bikes: Salsa Casseroll

Greetings everyone. I just received my new bike; a Salsa Casseroll. My old bike is a Schwinn Sporterra, which I ride 12 to 20 miles almost daily, and is doing very well at 2000km. My type of riding is road and bike paths if they are not too crowded, with some dirt roads. Never actual trails. And my goal is to attend 4-5 day supported group tour events next year, with 70-100 mile rides daily. The bike does appear to be perfect for that, it is comfortable and shock absorbing. And easier to go faster than the Schwinn. My (now new) LBS is a Salsa dealer, but they had never sold a Casseroll before. After a few calls, they found that there were only two available in the entire State! I had no idea that they were that rare, I thought that I could just stroll in and try one out. It took a month to arrive but it was worth it because the 58cm size is perfect for me, proper fit having been numero uno on my list. And it turns out the owner of the shop is a longtime coach and fitting expert so that was great. The bike weighed in at 26lbs equipped with inline brake levers, dual use pedals, and computer. It also came standard with a little front rack, which I like because my preferred method of carry is a front bag, and it keeps the bag out of the way of the cables and off the handlebars. Salsa had no particular bag in mind for the rack I learned, and after seeing some for like 100 dollars (!), I was able to find a lunch bag for 14 that is the perfect size.
