If you're not in a huge rush, AliExpress sells same or similar shorts for half the price as Amazon. Takes 2-3 weeks to ship. Careful with the sizing, sometimes they are in Asian size, sometimes in EU. Just got these:

Can’t post the link yet but I’ve been very happy with the quality and durability - so far - of the Sportneer Mountain Bike Shorts from Amazon. I’m 6’1” 205lbs and a large was perfect for me.

I put my personal stuff in the pockets of my bike jersey. The mountain bike shorts are like regular shorts and long enough to avoid chaffing from the saddle. There are padded underwear liners that can be used with any pants or shorts.

I have the Hiauspor shorts from Amazon. Bought them when I fattened up two years ago. They are good for the price. Seams have held up, no tears. I always were my regular padded bike shorts underneath-I don't have much natural padding. I like the fit of Zioc shorts better overall, often on sale, and come with a removable liner. The recommendations above boy others, using liners or bike shorts under cargo shorts will of course work...but some regular shorts have very bulky and misplaced seams in the crotch which is uncomfortable after 30 mins of riding.

Again, I can't see the advantage of these vs. wearing a regular pair of roomy or stretchy shorts over a pair of cycling shorts or a cycling shorts liner? Am I missing something? That's what I've always done.

Any shorts will work if you have two things:
1) A pair of padded liner shorts
and
2) Zipper or tight snap pockets on your shorts.
I am way past the stage in my life where I look remotely fashionable in Spandex so I wear Endura Hummvee Baggy cycling shorts with Club Ride liner shorts.
The Endura shorts aren't too terribly hot in the summer here in North Carolina, or when I lived in Phoenix, and they have zipper and Velcro pockets to keep my cell and wallet safe. And, they wear like iron and come in a bunch of colors.

I've been wearing bike shorts under normal clothes for 30+ years, and never had too much of any problem with these issues. I like being able to go just about anywhere and do just about anything on a ride while wearing clothing that allows that flexibility. As some people know, I even show up on fast rides in a (wicking) polo shirt and regular shorts with good bike shorts under them. Just never been much of a jersey fan.

fwiw - I use Zoic tri-shorts & their MTB shorts over them (didn't care for the liners that came with them)

Like I said, whatever works for you. Wear a g-string for all I care. I think those look more normal to me than bike shorts. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see them in person. Why do some people on here want to turn a simple question into a big debate/argument?

My biggest thing is that my gym/exercise shorts tend to ride up and the pockets are useless as they are basically perpendicular to upsidedown when I ride. Any shorts that don't do those two things should be fine.

You asked for advice and then wouldn’t even consider a couple of options that fit your stated parameters for reasons that didn’t appear to make much sense. It’s all good and you should buy what you want. But peeps that took the time to give said advice are naturally going to discuss.
You ofc don’t have to justify your choices and I hope you find exactly what you are looking for.
