More bike robberies at gunpoint - Oakland hills
There's a couple of posts on another Bay Area cycling message board regarding TWO more bike robberies at gunpoint over the past week in the Oakland hills. Seems like the same gang in both incidents. Again on Redwood/Skyline around Joaquin Miller Park. One was in the afternoon, the other at 6AM! So forget about going early as a "safer" option. I think I may have to call it a career riding those hills, it's just dangerous, and with the state of affairs with OPD, it seems impossible to ever get your bike back or to get justice. I'll stick to (closed) Wildcat and maybe the fringes like Pinehurst, but riding on Redwood/Skyline is too dangerous now, sadly.

Article in the SF Comical.
This was one of my rides when I was in grad school. It never seemed anything other than 100% safe.

The linked article stated the bikes GPS tracker was located in a house, but without a warrant all the cops could do was knock on the door.
ARMED ROBBERY and all they do is knock!
Are you kidding, that’s a joke

Sorry for shouting, but thus is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

Here is some "good" news, at least we can feel safe when there's no cars! Grizzly Peak to be closed to cars from Skyline to Centennial on the 4th of July.

Almost unbelievably, it happened again.
https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023...d-tilden-park/
This time on Golf Course Road, literally right near the parking lot. In mid-morning. I was using this as a way to add on a few more miles without going up to GP, but they are venturing further and further down the hill towards the east side...the only safety left (if even) is Wildcat while it is closed. I can't see myself ever riding up there again unless in a big group.
