Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just finished putting this together, temporary setup. I have a white seatpost that matches the stem, and might add a white saddle and bar wrap. Looking into my options for toeclips, if I want steel or white plastic, not sure yet. I'd also like to have two cross levers instead of just one for the front brake.

The frame is a size too big for me, the reason I built it up was because I snagged the frameset for $10. I might migrate the parts to another frame, when another good deal comes my way.

Beautiful bike. But I would recommend moving the front brake to the left bar end. You want your front brake in the place where you spend the most time, which I would assume is out on the end. Rear brake you don't use much (or shouldn't).

I like the setup though, very different.

Actually, I usually ride on the corners, which isn't good for braking either way. It's going to get switched up a few times before I settle on something.

Thanks for the compliment, I wanted to try something like this a long time ago and I'm glad I did.

'someone' asked me to post so here is my 13.2lb stock (out of the box) Scott Addict LTD

With computer, Pedals, and 2 Bottle cages it now 13.9lb.
It is now 6 month old (and with close to 3,000 miles), so it is time for parts replacement or simply upgrades: I ordered the new Campagnolo Super Record 11. I am not sure if it will take the bike to 14lb or down a bit?! but in theory, it will take it to $15k spent on a single bike

The obscene obsession with lightweight bikes has got to be some sort of symptom of mental ******ation when someone will have 15k dollars into a bike that won't outperform a bike that costs 4k dollars.

If you've got the scratch I guess to each their own but I'd spend the money on Carmichael training or trips to the mountains to actually ride instead.

I still think that it is a beautiful bike. And lightweight, stiff , comfortable bikes, like the Addict, are nothing to sneeze at!

Let me know when rideable sub-10lb bikes hit the market. 13lbs isn't worth paying $13,000 more than you'd need for a 15lb bike.

BTW, i'm quite happy with 17.2lbs for less than $1,500k, thank you very much. had I gone with williams system19's and Force or Centaur instead of Rival, it would be lighter even yet for only another hundred or two.

Lovely bike, the Addict, but what difference has it made to your riding compared with what you rode before? Just curious.

Yes, but 15lb. for $2k, while possible, is not actually that easy.

My track bike weighs under 15 lbs, and I've spent just under $1000 on it. 32 spoke wheels too.

No need to build it; they sell several at BD. For example...

Immortal Pro: 15.4lb for $1300.

I wasn't trying to argue against the idea, indeed I've built several sub-15lbers using ebay sourcing. I was just saying it's not easy. But there is no way that that BD Immortal Pro weighs anywhere near 15.4 lbs- check the build specs.
