Very nice! I bought a similar one, a 1971 model, and had it powder coated. I’m still in the process of getting it built up, but it will be great fun when it is done. On yours, I’d keep those cottered cranks too!

This forum never ceases to amaze me. First a real nice vintage mixte tandem from France. Then in the same thread, steelbikeguy not only remember the cover from a 1975 edition of Bicycling magazine, he goes into his library and finds the very edition that he had in mind and posts a picture of the cover.

Regarding the Gitane tandem itself... I've always wondered how flexy those models were. I've ridden a vintage Schwinn tandem that had the stiffness of lightly cooked spaghetti, and I've ridden a late 90's Santana that was quite solid. Hope to hear how the Gitane compares.

Not aure exactly what i am going to do on the bike but i will say we were pulled out of line going into canada. The customs folks didnt understand why you would drive to niagra falls for a bicycle. Then they asked if i had over 10,000 in cash. I started laughing and they sent me to customs. All's well that ends well.
Seat posts and stem came out easily. I did a quick spread of the rear triangle. It was 120. It was also out of line a bit. Its straighter now if a tad wide. 126 fits fine and i have an old phil wood freewheel hub i want to use. Going with a sturmey archer dynamo and 90mm drum brake in front. Along with the mafac cantilevers it should stop.
