Making my own tires?

Is this a bad idea? Making my own tires?
I saw a video that made it look appealing from AdventureCycle named HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN STUDDED TIRES

I'd just buy commercial ones unless you have a special need not satisfied by the current offerings such as needing smaller than normal tires, or needing spikier than normal tires (Alaska?)

Terrible idea if riding on the roads and pavement, OK for riding off road on trails...My advice is to buy proper studded tires.

Studded bicycle tires are already heavy enough without adding a screw head to every stud. I tried this in the past and ended up throwing away the tire because it was just too heavy to use.

Thanks. I thought so, but it just seemed like a fun DIY.

I'll use my diy energy somewhere else.

THANKS

Not only are they heavy but the handling is terrible, the screws wear out very fast and they are dangerous when cornering because the screws slide on the pavement.

It can kinda-sorta work if you feed your bike a full-snow/ice diet. For mixed riding, DIY studs, and cheap commerial ones, wear out surprisingly fast.
Carbide tires generally last until the studs have worn their way through the casing, and puncture the tube by rubbing.
