The Golden Boy 

I posted this as a thread when I first got the Souldier strap- and now it's on the Starfire. I haven't gone the strap lock route yet- I'm probably just going to use rubber washers- I don't trust strap buttons alone.

When I was a kid, I was enamored with Zeppelin- and in the Jimmy Page Guitar World special issue- there was a picture of Jimmy Page in the Yardbirds- that's always been my favorite Jimmy Page picture-





For years, I wanted a white-ish Tele with a white guard- just because of THIS picture.

Eventually I got a sunburst Japanese Tele- I sanded it down and spray painted it Krylon Almond. It's a horrible job- but it achieved the look I wanted.





For several years I casually searched for one of the Ace straps with that pattern- but never found one. Eventually, I saw that Souldier made those- but at a price I was unwilling to fork out. Maybe it was the announcement of the Jimmy Page Teles, maybe it was actually having a bit of expendable cash- this past week I checked into the pricing and I ordered one of the Souldier blue "Stained Glass" straps. It wasn't as expensive as I remember them being- but I'm pretty stoked. I don't know if I'm going to use this on the Tele; I'm kind of looking for a nifty strap for my Guild Starfire II bass...

A couple D-28 copies I made about 1994. I still have them. Actually sold the first one and bought it back recently, after the buyer passed away.

I like your Guild bass as well. I have some vintage Guilds that I need to get some pictures of. A '71 F-47
bluegrass,an '67 X-500 thick body archtop, a few D-25's and a few 12 strings.
I have one more that I built, similar to a Martin J-40, a jumbo body as opposed to a dreadnaught, but otherwise similar to the two above.

I don't know enough about acoustics. Really- I was up in the air whether to get a short scale/ 1.5" nut bass or a good acoustic. I remember playing an old Guild that was my embodiment of what an acoustic should sound like- I don't remember if it was a jumbo or dreadnought... One of the guitar players in my band owns a store- he was steering me towards a Martin D-28, but they didn't have any in... I ended up spending the rest of the discretionary funding on bike stuff!

Here are the only two C&V pieces I've held onto recently. The right is a '76 SG-I and the left is a '99 (not so vintage) SGX that has been heavily modified. I've been a guitar tech since I was a teenager and that's how I got motivated to wrench on bikes. It's also where my love of older things comes from.

Approaching 30yrs ago, now, so I suppose it's getting close to C&V ... but I once had an Ovation Elite similar to the one pictured below. A tad "synthetic" as compared to, say, a classic Martin, but wonderful to play.

I love it when this neat family of basses come out of the woodwork, whether it be a Ripper, Grabber, or G3.

Here's my 1978 G3. My dad got it on his 16th birthday, and when I graduated high school and was playing a lot of music he passed it on to me:



I've got three other basses and a handful of more modern electric guitars, but if I had to pick only one to keep it would be this one. And that's not just because he specifically told me that if I ever didn't want it anymore that I was to give it back to him, it's a really special bass with quite a unique tonal profile.

Unfortunately I don't play nearly as much as I used to, but the best thing about instruments like this are that they are always ready to go whenever I feel the urge to play.

I've had this one around since I was 16 or so. It's a Kay Value Leader. Not sure what the Old Kraftsman label is about.

Old Kraftsman was the house brand of an old department store. Back when Kay was manufacturing for various stores to sell. Similar to Silvertone being a Sears brand or Truetone being Montgomery Ward (I think).

I think Airline was Montgomery Ward and Truetone was Western Auto Supply...

Western Auto! That's the one. They were out of business before I was born anyway.
I used to own a really cool Truetone acoustic that I sadly parted ways with a few years back.

I think Old Kraftsman was the Speigel Catalog brand.

That's a nice guitar, and it looks 100 percent original . Those old Kay pickups can sound pretty good. I always wanted one of these, but the prices were going up every time I looked. I made my own copy of one, and rewound some dead Kay pickups myself.

This is an early JV Telecaster. Nicest Tele I ever played. There was something special going on in Japan in the late 70's and early 80's not just in Guitars but Bikes also.

I'll have to wait a while before posting, I guess. I cannot play any instrument; but my wife, after 50 years of playing classical piano, now has untreatable, Stage 4, Jimmy Page Fever and is learning to play guitar. Her Gibson Les Paul "Studio", bought used (obviously) is IIRC a 2004 model - I guess the cutoff of C&V guitars is even more subjective than C&V bicycles. This topic like likely still be active in ten years, so maybe I'll post a photo then.

I did get involved to the degree of, after buying her a bunch of pedals and a pedal board, to get on the internet and ask how to wire then all up in when sequence. So far, no household fires, so I guess it worked out OK.
