I'm having a tough time disagreeing with your logic, Maelochs. But there is such a thing in the legal system as personal accountability. That's my first point. Personal accountability.
My second point is, there seems to be a yawning gap of insensitivity from motorists towards cyclists. Maybe if motorists were asked to stand in the shoes of cyclists this gap would narrow. I'm suggesting, offending motorists should do more cycling. Maybe even more winter cycling. Something that asks them to stand in the shoes of cyclists and see things from our perspective.

It might be interesting to find out if there were any cyclists on the jury. Even if only one or two, they might have brought that perspective into deliberations.

You could have done that by moving to NYC or several other East Coast metropolitan areas.
