Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You like Cannes? I personally hated the place when I was there last summer but maybe it was because we didn't do anything there or maybe because I got really drunk there.

i hear ya - actually i hated most of cannes that i saw (too much opulence); but the cycling looked great, and the beaches were great too.

we actually camped in 'cannes le boca', a smaller place just west of Cannes proper.

and they have funny grocery stores called "casino"!! that and a panini on the mediterranean is enough for me to expatriate, once i find a job over there. oh, and learn french too.

I can understand why LeBlanc would question Armstrong into coming back for yet another victory, but seriously...why make it a public statement? When was the last time a Frenchman took the yellow jersey home, anyway?

Exactly.

Yes, but he needs his own channel.

Indeed, Lance is just off the mark. I mean if I wanted to expand my personal charity and get my message out to more people I would certaintly not pick a 23 day event which is the 3rd most watched sporting event in the world and one in which it is almost guaranteed that I would get 75% of the coverage. What is Lance thinking - he should stick to the 45 mile local group rides that get seen by 1,500 people max, much better use of his time.

Wisdom? I'd say reliable entertainment with the occasional golden nugget of saccharine, inspirational doggerel that really should be accompanied by swelling string music as the camera follows a butterfly fluttering up, up, up into the sun...

Don't get me wrong, all of this is a GOOD thing.

Pardon me if I'm being ignorant- but don't the French run this race? Don't they write all the rules? Don't they do all the drug testing? If he thinks Lance is doping, and they couldn't catch him when he won over and over and over, what's that say about them?

We have a bidet in our master bathroom. My wife made me get one when we built the house in 1997. She considers it the pinnacle of Western Civilzation. I told her it was a friggin Poon Tang Wash and proceeded to get myself all soaking wet when I played with the faucets on it.

I haven't touched that crazy porcelain gadget in ten years.
