Has anyone mentioned roller bearing headsets?

I've got Stronglight Delta's on a couple of bikes, and an A9 on another. Wonderful stuff.

+1
This headset topic could almost merge into the recent thread of what are you tired of C&V. That being the old standard bb headset.

But these taper roller bearings are proven and excellent.

Lesser quality by means of a lighter housing is the Bernard Hinault. So far mine has survived but do think some day the nylon housing will split. Does have of course treated steel race.

The other is a Tange G-Master. I had completely forgotten of them until the late when acquired with the Zunow frameset. Really nice and precise.

Same here - Delta, Nadax, A9 on mine. The youngest one is over 20 years old and still smooth as butter.

What I’m about to say is not meant as a knock to you in any way. But it was not advanced. It was poorly designed and poorly executed. The helical threading is clever but not radical and caused more design issues than design improvements. I’ve had three of these hubs. Only one survived and that was with careful servicing. Undersized bearings, poor metallurgy, limited gearing, and special tooling. My opinion.

The Mallard hubs that Trek used after that generation were much improved and more elegant.

This is a neat set of posts! Gives me a chance to talk about a stem adaptor: https://www.jim.bike123.com/Lmbo/px/adapter.JPG
I had this made for a fixie for $10, 'cause the steering mast would have cost me $400. Finished assembly looks like this: on my Burley

And a classic, iconic Cinelli sloping fork crown to go with them for the trifecta.

I don't know if a rack can be classed as a component ?

.
...but I always thought Eclipse racks and bags were kinda nifty, when they were making them.

Sure they are. Eclipse were the Rolls Royce of bags and racks.

Yours still has the headlock fasteners, those black plastic fittings on the top. Not all the Eclipse panniers have the matching tabs on them to lock together. Yours must be a later set. That rear U-shaped rod that is angled down traditionally angles up to help retain stuff on the flat area.

Well, the Eclipse bags got us slightly offtrack from real components, so let me know if this ranges too far afield. I actually had two but gave one to a friend.

Indeed GB!

Though for this Suntour, I did deviate from stock, made a few little parts such as the horizontal barrel part. Same goes for a second unit (NOS) on ebay -that one too with missing bits, bushing, etc.

And of related note: You being the Trekmeister, not sure if you're aware they also marketed a similar 'Powerhanger'. Its cast shape is different and has molded in a 'T' for Trek. I recently learned of it after seeing one in a box of junk at a bike shop.

Thanks! It's not really that hard. I figured I'd screw it up the first time so I didn't worry about it much. It's a little sloppy but it doesn't bug me. Give it a try, it's fun!

I should probably have typed something, but the unique bike component I was actually trying to show was the homemade/DIY aluminum minimalist decaleur, not the harlequin tape job. I don't think anyone noticed it.

I noticed the decaleur first, then saw the tape, liked them both, decaleur is very cool.

sorry... I'm not into the handlebar bags and don't know which hardware is production and which is home built. Bending and joining tubing or rod is certainly not a simple task, though. You might have to show some of the bending jigs, etc., used to build the decaleur. I think this group loves to see what tools are used for a job.

On the other hand... I've seen discussions of how to do the harlequin wraps, and have thought that it would be just the right combination of difficult, frustrating, and cool.
hmm.... my Raleigh Team could use some new bar tape.. maybe a red & black harlequin wrap?
