Vintage Sannino racing bike

Hi All,
I inherited my brother's vintage Sannino racing bike and cannot find out any real information on it. It looks like the serial number is 62 (that is stamped into the bottom of the frame along with the name of the bike. It has Brey Campagnolo breaks, Dura-ace gears, Mavic wheels and Armadillo technology turbo 700x23c tires. There is pitting on some of the chrome parts but the frame is in very good condition I think. The tires, gears and breaks either need cleaning up or replaced. I know nothing about these bikes and am hoping one of you can lead me in the right direction as to how much it might be worth and where to sell it. I have a Trec bike that I ride so this bike is just sitting in garage getting dirty... Thanks a lot for any help

Hi,

welcome aboard, there is a "whats it worth" thread for this.

We need pics, good ones and plenty of them, you need 5 posts X 2 days for 10 to post them here but you can add them to an album on your home page and they will get moved.

Pics need to be full on sides, front, rear, components, details, flaws and cool flourishes.

Thanks I hope so... It needs some work as it's been sitting so not mint but it looks like its a good solid bike with no crashes or bent wheels ... I guess if someone likes those very tiny hard seats, skinny hard tires and that (Man) bar :{ to ride on, this is a great bike ...I prefer a bit squishier seat, bigger tires and something to just cruise on... LOL

These are somewhat sought after, this one is on the tall side and that can be a plus.

Any chance it would fit you, all the things you mention could be changed and this could be a cool sort of pseudo upright commuter, maybe.

Drop bars are used on all road bikes, this was a racing bike of sorts.

I imagine that is a 59-61 CTC frame? Definitely on the taller side of average.

I really like these frames, but this one is way too large for me.

I would guess that “62” stamp is the frame size.

Short chain stays, steep head angle, Dura Ace, Campagnolo, ... sure looks like a racer to me.

Cindyb, in case you didn't know, red bikes go faster!

P.S. - I do not like that seat, either. I ride a well broken in Brooks leather saddle.

A little Sannino information HERE.
and HERE.

I will venture a guess at reasonable selling price in its current condition of $500 assuming your market is a major metropolitan area. As others have stated it is at the tall end of the spectrum. Let's see what others think.

...sorry you lost your brother. Looks like he was an avid cyclist. Stuff like this is hard to sell currently. I don't know why, but it probably has something to do with trends and the current marketing paradigm that emphasizes lighter carbon fiber reinforced frames, disc brakes, and ergo shifters.
If you are selling it locally, you could start with a Craigslist ad at the previously suggested $500. someone who is into this stuff locally might see it, and decide it's the bike they always wanted. It will probably be someone older. It would bring more on e-bay, but the hassles with listing and shipping are probably not worth it to you.

Again, sorry you lost your brother. But he probably had some good times on that bike.

I'm way too short for this bike and like to ride the cruisers... they are good bikes for beginners... I grew up on horses so never spent much time as a bike rider

Thank you... He lived in Sacramento when he rode that bike...small world! I will list it locally and see what I can do.
I was just trying to get some information like year etc. before I tried listing it so I could be informative to a buyer.

...generally on something like this, the exact year won't matter to someone who wants it.
Those two links to information, like the one to Classic Rendezvous, is something you can attach to your for sale ad.

Otherwise, the demographic of guys, like the ones here, who still buy and ride these is shrinking.
And you need to find one who is about 6'2" or 6'3" tall for it to be the right size.

The local listing thing is kind of a crap shoot. There are people who will respond to your ad who are just low balling everything.
It doesn't really help to ask only serious buyers to respond. But sometimes it works out well, and just the right person sends you a message, and buys the bicycle.

Listing it at $500, rather than $300, cuts down on the lowballing people. But it doesn't eliminate them entirely.

I will encourage you to clean it up a bit, some elbow grease can work wonders and get it out of the crusty old bike category for the sake of selling.

Wash and carefully scrub any grime that will come off without doing harm, sometimes it can take a lot, sometimes not.

Dawn/degreaser style dishsoap can work wonders and a cleaner wax can follow up for often very good results.

Anytime, always glad to try and help.

If you hit "quote" the poster you are responding to will get an alert.

I don't live on a ranch but it feels like it most of the time, always too many things that need wrangling, bikes, dog, ants, trees, pool, house, vehicles........
