Ha ha I watched the whole replay after I got back from my ride. Sagan!!! Mohoric didn't look pleased his 4+ minutes were erased. Froome! Froome did some big pulls at the front, that's cool.

Nice bit of racing this morning. Woke up early enough to catch the final 20k of the Volta - de Gendt and Mohoric out front, Mohoric descending like a demon but he waited for de Gendt each lap. I was like de Gendt has to attack on the final climb or else it's Mohoric and then bang, de Gendt's acceleration up when Mohoric showed the tiniest bit of hesitation was incredible!!
Too bad for Bennett at WG, looked really good but just popped at like ... 15k? to go. I tuned in around 50k to go and man, that Nathan Van Hooydonck just did an INCREDIBLE amount of work, Wout simply would not have won today without him.

Watching Vlogs?
Been liking Chris Horner's Butterfly Effect. the Lanterne Rouge has been rubbing me the wrong way - too long and droning. GCN now and again.

Not much into vlogs, but I finally got into being able to watch live. I also really enjoy "cycling out of context" Twitter feed

I enjoy the GCN crew now and then. It's been nice to see them grown from a couple of knuckleheads to a legit network.
I like Horner. But honestly haven't made it through many flaps of the Butterfly's wings.
Honestly, I've got nothing better to suggest. I do like David Hunter's work and realize he's got some outlets other than Ciclisimo International, but life keeps getting in the way of partaking.

Horner's insight of how the peloton actually works is well worth the time IMHO. His edition today on Dwars doors Vlaanderen, calling out Campanaerts of TQA gave me insight I would not have had. Otherwise it would be hard to understand how van Baarle could have soloed to a win from 50 km out, with a time gap that was for the most part only 15-40 seconds. How come nobody could mount an attack to bridge across that small gap?

Anyway yeah I was watching the live feed and saw Campaenerts pulling that BS. Thanks for providing a segway into how Baarle and IMO Stuyven won San Remo - everyone looking at each other and not going. I dunno if it's the added pressure after last year's reduced season but only a few are willing to risk losing a top ten finish to win.
I mean technically Campanaerts wasn't doing work because they were trying to setup a sprint for Nizzolo? Maybe it wasn't up to Campanaerts, maybe it was the DS calling the shots but it sure seemed like the chasing trio of Durbridge, Rui Oliveira, victor could've joined up with Baarle. It was crazy to watch the gap stay at a constant 30" to whatever chase group had formed behind.

Van Avermaet. I have the faith. I haven't seen Soren as much as I thought I would so I'm sure he'll fly off the front to snag it.

Great racing by Asgreen, then just a fantastic run to the line from less then 500 meters. Didn't panic just paced MvdP and kept his power through. Kind of crazy MvdP just shook his head and watched Asgreen pull away.
Total BS Schär was DQ'd for tossing that bottle!? It was towards some fans ... ?

I don't think I can recall somebody visibly quitting so close to the line, especially for a monument, but van der Poel knew he was beat.

The bottle thing will resonate for some time. Particularly after MVDP and then Asgreen did the EXACT same thing (toss bottle to fan outside green zone) around the red kite. Rob Hatch and Matt Stephens were on it like a hobo on a hamburger, too, and said something "it's a pretty bold commissaire who would make the same call right now."
P.S. well doneDeceunick Elegant Quick Step all around, and Asgreen.
P.S. well done

Continuing to enjoy Horner's insights, in this case about how Jumbo-V and van Aert blew it on Tour of Flanders.
But can somebody more knowledgeable explain something?
Horner is explaining the strategy of Asgreen and MvdP as they went into the last 1200 meters.
He says (at about 8:55) "Asgreen knows he has the right to sit on because he has teammates in back...." (in the chase group)
I don't get it. The chase group wasn't going to be a factor in that last km. The chase group was 30+ seconds back.
What was the dynamic here?

NOT pretending to be more knowledgeable. Just sayin...
I think Chris put a bunch of stuff in the blender there and just sort of poured it all out of his mouth, skipping over the details that morphed SIGNIFICANTLY in terms of gaps and sitting on calculus and such over the last 10k. You're right, as they came up on the red kite, that "right to sit on" was all moot.
Further back, around 8 or 9k, Asgreen could certainly have sat on, using Senechal as an excuse. But it's not clear that DQS having a 2 in 12 chance (or about that, if G1 and G2 combined) was better than their 1 in 2 if he did a little work and helped them to stay away. They probably both benefitted from not having to spring against GVA, WVA, and other interlopers, or endure attacks at 2 or 3 k out from riders like Benoot or Van Baarle.
This "right to sit on" thing isn't some absolute right. It's more of an Ace in the Hole that you don't "have to" work because something good is going to happen for your team either way. Which wasn't completely true here, and MVDP knew it. DQS didn't really have an ace in the hole, only maybe a jack. So Asgreen did some work. And won anyway.

yeah, that makes more sense. It is true that Asgreen did less of the work after they dropped van Aert, and more than likely that gave him the extra gas at the line.
Not to mention that it was MvdP's attack that dropped van Aert, though I'm sure Asgreen had to dig in order to follow that attack

stage two-itzulia...thinking uae and ineos will want to start chipping away at team jv's/roglic's advantage starting now. looks like a fun
penultimate climb and a chippy, little finish to potentially gain back a few seconds. dunno if there are time bonuses available for the
first few across the finishing line but doubt it. expecting to see hirschi/tales of brave ulissi and amador/tgh on the move to force the issue.
going with the sirens sweetly singing and ulissi for the win.

seems like hirschi is still finding his way within the uae framework. they weren’t exactly bereft of talent before his arrival and who knows what races have been prioritized on his calendar. he had a good tt performance yday. maybe he gets a chance to see how he can tackle a gt as a protected rider for the giro or vuelta with mcnulty doing the other gt and tadej defending his tour crown.
