2019 Trek Marlin 6

Would this be OK as a first MTB bike? Mainly going to use it as a winter bike on trails. Are Altus components good?

Had a Marlin 5. Was very nice for the money. The brakes and shifting were really good. The fork was ok. Not life changing, but ok and better then my previous higher end, but older bike.
Sold it to go full suspension. Trails here were beating me too much......

friend owned one only problem he had was his spoke tension kept easing off. he is a bigger guy and it wasn't comfortable for him. He wound up with a trek roscoe. one of my other riding buddies bought his son one and its been a good bike for him the kid is 14 and its perfect for his abilities.

Winter bike?

Maybe a fat bike is a better option.

Is the 6 worth the price increase from the 5?
