Trying to find out if this is a decent frame. https://murphycycles.com/products/marty

I'm in the market for a steel lugged frame in this price range, and this one looks pretty nice in the pics, but I'm hesitant because all I know about this seller is what he says on his site. I also know he used to sell on ebay under the name Nomco (Neil O. Murphy) with mixed reviews. There's an old thread on here from a few years back where somebody claims that Murphy picked up a bunch of cheap frames and did crappy powdercoats on them to resell on ebay. That worries me, but the price is right, so I'm tempted. Anybody have any experience with or thoughts on these frames?

It's not a real Maxway frame but those dropouts are a pretty good ripoff.

Its not from Maxway. It is Founderland unbranded double butted Reynolds spec steel & hand brazed in a small custom job shop. Powdercoated in USA. Dropouts & fork crown are pro level investment cast. Rear adjusters are now included. Lug work is very fine & tolerances are excellent. Now available in Gloss Black. Threadless forks & full builds available. Rides very well on the street considering the aggressive geometry. Limited Edition.

I am not sure what you mean. If by robot you suggest I could be less formal, Ok, I accept that. I prefer accuracy over style. If by better luck you mean I could find better information on the forums, I doubt it.
To each is own. I seek what is real. Words can be precise, misleading, or meaningless. Humor is great, but for me bicycles are serious fun.

Geometry is on the website and in other listings, see the OP. Sold on Amazon years ago, a lot of hassle, now prefer my site & the bay. By pro level I mean not forged or spot welded, low level, but traditional, original style full quality investment cast lugs. Dropouts / rear fork is a different company, lugs are long shen. Yes, custom geometry, I suppose it is small batch builds, seems like a lot to me, usually 100 at a time. the Marty is clearly focused on classic models and similar to Bianchi Pista. Sigh, no, not a spambot, Ok, so I am not a great writer, but I try.

About the tubesets. Each of my models use the same 4130 double butted type material, each with different butting, diameters, thickness, length...none are shaped, always round, as I do not believe in anything but the best, original, fully round, still the strongest. (stiff in all directions) It is 100% Taiwan, but the specification is Reynolds. The same quality and configuration as 520, but withouth the sticker. I don't believe in logos or brands, or stickers, but the reference makes people more comfortable. The geometry I use usually starts with a 56 or 58 model and is modified slightly for each size larger and smaller. I sell a lot of larger road fixed type frames, 62 & 64. Top tubes change with each size. The longer wheelbase on the Himself & Seamus models mean a very stable ride, but the angles make it still sporty. Frames come ready to build with clean threads & tube surfaces.

This was my thinking as well. Of course okckida says his location is "Eugene, OR" but a user can put in anything for their location. Murphy Cycles ebay page says the item ships from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ummm... what party was ruined? Sketchy unknown frameset was shown to be... sketchy. And only backed by one person, who spouted what sounded like ad copy. Sorry if that bugs you, but I think it's a legit reaction.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but those Marty frames are super ugly. The welds look weird and the paint looks cheap. All of the welded on crap on that "road" frame seem poorly done. Maybe they have terrible photos, but based on the paint and welds alone, I wouldn't buy one. Looks like a rattle can job with semigloss paint on a frame that wasn't properly taped and primed.

I'd rather buy a Kilo Frame from Bike Island.

Those "welds" are called lugs, it's how we built frames in the before-time.

Call them whatever you want, they're still ugly. Maybe they just need a different paint or something, but they just don't look super great in my opinion. YMMV
