Not just biplane, many of those were a cast crown and far better aesthetic wise than the uni to be sure.
Before that there were plenty of gorgeous handmade lugged crowns but as the MTB thing caught fire and took off, there was no keeping up.
The lugged crown was doomed and had its limitations as it was a hard life they were not suited for without a very serious skilled hand making them.
Time is money and they took way too much of both.

1972 Cinelli Special Corsa, with frame built in Milan by Cino Cinelli, dean of Italian frame building (built prior to Columbus acquisition).
Seat tube: 61cm center-center (63cm center-top); top tube: 58cm
This bike was built for Tim Wilson by Spence Wolf, dean of NorCal custom builds. Spence also built the wheels.
All parts are original aside from freewheel and rubber and bar tape.

Headset: Campagnolo Record
Stem: Cinelli 1A, 11cm
Bars: Cinelli Giro d’ Italia
Shifters: Campagnolo Record
Front Der: Campagnolo Record
