Bibs vs. Shorts: Discuss.
I've always used shorts and never really considered bibs. I decided to do some research and have seen a lot of positive feedback on bibs. I like my Louis Garneau, Bellwether, and Pearl Izumi shorts so I was thinking about trying the bib-equivalent of the shorts that I have. Just looking for some other feedback/opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of bibs vs. shorts.

Short answer: Bibs.
Long answer: The majority of people are just going to say bibs. @rpenmanparker will drop his anti-bib manifesto at some point and that will probably be the best set of arguments against bibs, but I still say bibs.

Oooh, you guys are tough. For me bibs are just a solution in search of a problem. I don't dislike anything about standard shorts, and I don't notice any kind of improvement with bibs. So what's the point? I don't need the extra layer of clothing or the potty issues either.
You like 'em, you wear 'em. Just please don't suggest there is no other way. That just isn't true.

The majority of people I have talked to/dealt with initially buy shorts because they are self conscious about something that no one else can even see. Once they try bibs, they question why they didn't try them sooner.
Then there is Robert. Or Triathletes, I guess. I kid, I kid.
But seriously, I don't think I've ever been in bibs and suddenly had a need to sit on a toilet. You can manage urination without undressing yourself.

Bibs have the advantage that hey stay up without squeezing you gut like the waistband on shorts might. OTOH, you have to get underssed to take a quick pee.
So, if you have a small waist and your shorts stay up nicely, save your dough. OTOH if your gut hangs over and your shorts try to roll down, then you'll likely find bibs worth the dough and not find the peeing issue significant compared to the added comfort.

So are you saying bibs if you're too fat for this sport?

Shorts for those that can burn off more calories than they take in.
Bibs for those that take in too many calories to burn off.
