Ross Professional question
Hello All,
Just picked this one up mainly for some parts needed for another project.
25" Ross Professional with Shimano 600 group set, 27" Araya wheels and the frame is in rough shape.
Original owner sold it for $60.00.
Anyway, the front and rear derailleur along with the Crank seems to be in great condition.
Trying to figure out the vintage of this unit serial number 2525-696 (seem odd).
Got any clues?

arabesque was 78 to 84
claw hanger suggests early in that range 78 to 80 at a guess

2525-696 is 25" frame, paint color 25 (gloss black) - model number for the professional. I would think the actual serial number is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket.
components are worth taking off and using on a better frame.
look for a date code on the components. They are probably original to the bike, so that would narrow down the year. My speculation is 1979 or 1980.

Those photos bring back memories... My parents got me a Ross Professional when I was in the 7th or 8th grade, would've been '78 or '79. By no means high-end, but a huge step up from the department-store Huffys and Columbias. Rode the heck out of that bike until I managed to save up enough for a Univega Super Strada (on sale as a 'last year's model'...). I wish I still had the Ross... well, really I just wish I still had the arabesque components from it!

Looks like ROSS had attempted to expand the definition of "Professional"

The arabesque components was all that I was after. Somewhere along the way the front Shimano 600 front brake got replaced with a Dia-Comp side pull. The bottom bracket sounded like churning sand just before I removed it.
The owner asked if I wanted to ride it before we made the deal. Um ... no, but thank you!

Last year I bought a ROSS Signature for the SR hubs and Golden Arrow crank, derailleur and brakes, all near mint condition. The frame, Ishiwata Triple Butted and paint were in perfect condition.
I was going to build it into a dedicated touring bike but when I checked alignment, I found that the head tube and seat tube were not parallel. I tried to straighten it but the steel was just too strong so I gave up because I didn't want to break something.
