Thinking of Buying Trek 5020
Seen at a yard sale Trek 5020 with Campy Record group. I have never owned a carbon frame, so am not sure how to inspect it. What should I look for and where? From a very quick overview type inspection, everything looks good. I don't need the bike, I am not a collector, I've never owned more than two bikes, and currently have only one, it fits me, so... But if the frame is going to fail, I really don't need it. He's asking $250.

BB shells can de-bond from the frame. Outside of that they are reliable. A bit dull to ride in my estimation. Modern carbon frames are much better.
Likely won't notice any performance advantage from that frameset. A well taken care of Caad10 makes for a better option. They are snappy, comfortable on a long ride and sprint well.
FWIW I have had two old school carbon frames and honestly from my perspective they were more about finding a new path for materials than they were about performance advantages. Even the Kestrels of that era were not so nice. I worked for a dealer that sold Kestrel, Trek, Specialized, Giant, etc. and had exposure to all the models. Anyway, the novelty aspect is something that is valued by many.
