198? - Cilo (Swiss)
Hello you all.
My first post here. I'm a happy owner of a 1985 Miyata 310 (all original except handle bars + new tires, in great shape).
Just found this Cilo on CL -- hot market area. Seller is asking $875, which I think it's way too expensive.
What's it worth?

Reynolds 531 tubing
Mavic MA2 rims
Vittoria Zaffiro 700X23c tires
Shimano 600 EX groupset

That is pretty tall. Any other pics? It looks nice and clean but $875 for a rather obscure brand?

Obscure Brand? I have owned two Miyatas and I sorely regret donating my last one. I think Miyatas are the most underrated bike brand out there. Im hoping T-Mar will further add to my rebuke of your obscure brand comment, harumph!

I concur it is overpriced, as it's a tall bike, (and they are less in demand), and the Swiss brand is solid, but obscure and not as "collectible".

The seller is dreaming at $875 for that bike. That's more like a $200-$300 bike: reynolds 531, shimano 600, and swiss threading to make your life more difficult when looking for a replacement bottom bracket. No thanks.

Just to add that I'm tall – 6'5''. And it's been difficult to find nice bikes. This one looks great, but yeah, it's overpriced.
If it's worth $300, it's pretty much the same value that I'll get for my Miyata here. Then, there'll be no reason to upgrade.

Cilo made great bikes, but as other have mentioned the brand does not carry the same demand as other more recognizable bicycles. I had a too-small Cilo SLX (that was the model name) built from...you guessed it, SLX.
That said, there'd be almost no way I'd spend $875 on a Cilo.
Tall bikes do come up often, and you're on the right track looking for a new bike before the season picks up.
Keep an eye on this thread (the last page of it) and you might find a winner:

Not sure if the steel frames from Cilo were actually made in Switzerland (could have been contracted out to a builder in neighboring Italy) as half the Cilo we encounter out there were the (aluminum, French built, re-branded Vitus 979s. Common enough thing for the Swiss be companies to do, as also evident with Titan brand bikes from the 80's. That being saiud, I agree with BG on the asking price in the 800's, sounding a bit too high for a bike from what is mostly considered as a "second tier" bike company. Especially if the tubing is indeed 531......753 is where it's mostly at it Reynolds tubing, for max. 80's C&V bike value.....
I'd say, the bike's actual value is more in the high $500's, max. The full 531 frame (instead of just thr main tubes) does help it a bit.....

Is it common for 531 bikes to have two different tubing decals? I mean I know there are 847 variations of straight, DB, etc but mixed decals?

The Reynolds fork and frame decals aren't just from different 531 tubesets, but also from different eras. Even assuming it Reynolds 531, this bicycle is at least twice FMV. It appears to be very early 1980s.
