Shimano STX RD-MC34 specs

Hi folks,

Hoping that those of you with personal experience could tell me what, if any, wiggle room there might be for spec on this particular RD. Does it swing far enough for 8-9 speed? Is the max rear sprocket really 28T? How's it worked out for you through the years? I understand it's a pretty underwhelming thing that shipped on a bazillion bikes in the mid-90s.

TIA!

I ran one with a 12-36 9s cassette for years, it was fine.
