Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apparently my blood pressure cuf/device has died a strange death. It reads Uber high.
I've been sweating my regular visit to my dr. thinking my pressure had elevated to the point of additional meds and diet restrictions. Etc. Etc.
What a relief! Lol. Fergin' awesome!! Currently celebrating with a Southern omelet.

I have determined that I could lose more weight if I went to bed earlier. I'm finding if I stay up late, the urge to snack is overwhelming. Maybe I should invest in those styrofoam disks people used to eat. "Rice cakes", I think they're called.

I think it's on life support.

We have become lazy bakers lately and have been using the bread machine for our sustenance. I know that the artisan sourdough bread has more soul, but one must make compromises.

I suggest you buy a big bag of "baby cut" carrots and make them your "go-to" snack. They are cheap, nutritious, low-calorie, and good to munch on.

I like seasoned almonds - they've got enough protein and fat that a small amount can satisfy cravings.

Agree almonds are a fantastic snack. They are very good for you, but they are also fairly dense calorically so if someone is too fat for this sport I think carrots make more sense.

BTW my favorite almonds are Marcona almonds. They are exclusively grown in Spain and delicious. But $$$$.

This is why I say a small amount and I'm drawing a distinction between hunger and cravings. IIRC, it's something like 14 almonds is a half serving and 80-90 calories (I like the Blue Diamond Bold Almonds, either a spicy variety or the sea salt & vinegar). The problem with an unsatisfying snacks (like carrots, for me), is that they do nothing for the underlying cravings and there's a good chance that the snacking will continue until the scratch is finally itched, and often results in higher calorie consumption.

One of my go-to snacks is a banana and half serving of homemade almond butter, it's like 200 cals total.

Another is green beans with a serving of garlic hummus - 90 cals total

last is almond milk and casein protein - 160 cals

I also like what I call Lazy Man's Deviled Eggs - hard boiled egg cut in half, with a little squirt of light (!!) mayo and dab hot sauce on each half. Prolly ~100 cal.

Ooooh... that reminds me of my wife's favorite breakfast, hard boiled egg whites and avocado slices on a wasa cracker

Yeah, that's the problem with nuts as a snack - they're more caloric than they are filling. I need the opposite.
