jdawginsc As you know I have lots of Campy parts around and here are a couple of examples that have come in over the years. The 610 part can get some serious changes during and after use. Note the attempt to repair the band attachment after it has been severed in the first example and the very loose plates with extra rust on top on the second. Smiles, MH
The plates must have detached and the parts were secured with a bolt from the inside. Pretty sketchy but it might work if you can't get another band. It is in the spare parts bin now.
From the same bin but way more used and rustified. The attaching plates have been worn to the point that nothing fits correctly. I could send the pieces out for re-plating but would be a big expense with no real improvement in working or value.

I liked doing it so much that I think I'm going to go into business cutting out BB pantographs and charge only $5000/hr for labor.
VERY rough still (looks like poo) but hey it's actually got a hole there now! I'm just glad I didn't have a massive 'boo boo' with the drilling or grinding. Will do more cleanup today, and balance my time by how much the screeching of the files drives the family nuts. This bike is good at that.

Man, when you're done, and at some time in the distant future, this bike will surely pass for one of Huffy's first factory prototypes, from the time of their entry into professional bike racing.
As long as all of us witnesses have passed by then, predicting that bidding on Ebay may go well over the $15k figure.

And as Drillium Dude mentioned, some re-sculpting of the kickstand plate (removing the fender tab, down to where it's still an effective stiffener of the chainstays) might make for a more-credible prototype.
Your bb shell liner should also be credible with the vintage of the first-gen Huffy racing prototype.
Perhaps also both derailer and number-plate hangers should be welded on?

That looks great. And I agree with removing the kickstand plate...it is now a serious Huffiero, and needs not such extras (plus I estimate a good 50-70 gram savings)

Especially as Huffy's pro riders were known to be strong guys, this might add credibility?
I am visualizing triangulation between the diagonal corners of the kickstand plate, anyone else seeing this?

So today marks the day that the first Campagnolo SUPER Record parts touched the bike -
This is an iron bar/clamp molded, shaped and painted to look like a human hand and arm. Too heavy for humans!
The Super Record rear wheel fits PERFECTLY, like it was made for the bike. Except that it wasn't, never was, and never would be.
We were cleaning the house today, so all the bike project stuff got its own box:
How legit is that. Even the plastic bag that has the cable is marked 'Campagnolo'. Feeling proud!
Also, it will soon be time to start making some adapters, so I needed to take some measurements, so got the SR rear caliper to see the difference -
It's about an inch-ish off. Just enough to make an adapter that will allow the post to clear the current bridge. We should be in business.
I told the Le Grande what I was doing, but the bike refused to believe that it was Super Record.
"Those are just Dia Compes! DON'T LIE TO ME!!!"
We are still working through previous traumas and processing things over here.

That is pretty cool. I did research this a little bit and found a similar idea - however, I didn't know that Campy made one! Very cool!
However, I think I will choose not to go that route for a few reasons -
1. I'm all out of kidneys to sell
2. That drop might not quite be enough
3. Using one of those does not equate to enough PAIN. I need to suffer, toiling away for hours to make a custom bracket, with all the pokes, scrapes, and cuts to go with it. Put in the work, ya know? This type of thing demands blood sacrifice and the Huffy is thirsty

On a serious note: you've truly got some skills, Dave - because that looks fantastic! It's cleaner than a lot of Italian 'drain holes' I've seen over the years. Bravissimo!
