Found in a Bike Shop Basement

i recently bought the entire stock from a LBS that recently went under and i found this lil gem in the basement, the only problem is i dont know what it is! anyone have any idea? it shifts beutifull and it is all factory welds, there is a pedal for a handle on one side and the stand is attached permanently, so far all we can think it is is a demonstration for the shifters, thats all that on the thing anyway! thanks in addvance

It's a 70's Schwinn shifting demonstration piece. Our LBS has one. Cool find.

They were originally made for Schwinn factory reps to take with them on the road to show the "hard to convince" dealers how a derailleur mechanism worked. Then some dealers wanted them for their showroom.

Yup, my LBS has one too. One of the signs of a C & V freindly shop.

Neat find. I'd trade a whole Schwinn for one of those.

I've seen enough of those that I'm pretty sure it's for teaching people how to shift. I taught large numbers of people how to shift over the time I worked in a bike shop. Pretty sure I used one of those a couple of times, but I'm trying to remember which shop.

Actually, this find is definitely SUPER-COOL. I nominate it as Find Of The Week.

It seems like, if disassembled and polished up, cleaned up, etc (about two hours work, maybe more if a crank puller is not to be had) it'd make a great coffee-table piece or mantlepiece, or just general household decoration.

I've seen these pop up on ebay a few times, BIN for (I think) around $40-60.
