Deal or Steal? 2012 Caad10 with Full SRAM Red - $1800
Note: image taken from the internet, and not from the actual bike in discussion.
Hi there, I am a new cyclist looking to get serious in riding after ½ a season riding last summer. I am currently riding a 2012 Raleigh Revenio 2.0 road bike with Shimano Sora.
I saw a LBS with a 2012 Cannondale Caad10 with full SRAM Red groupset (2011), Fulcrum racing 5 wheels and Victoria Rubio Pro. This was claimed to be a trade in from a customer after a few rides. The customer traded up to a Cannondale Super 6. The bike is in mint condition, but is noticeably not new. As indicated on the bar tape.
The size is a 52, and when I asked the LBS to put the bike on a scale, it weighted in as 17.7lbs with huge standard BMX like pedals. After doing some research, my guess is that it was the (2011) Sram Red due to the look of the Crank and the graphics on the shifter.
I haven’t had it on a test ride, as it was raining that day, and I plan on heading back for a test ride in a few days.
Now, I am not in a real hurry for a new bike, but it seems like a steal at $1800cdn + Tax.
They said it would be billed as a new bike for warranty purpose.
Is this deal a Steal, Good deal or just warm?
P.S. This is my first post, please be gentle…

I'm not sure if it's quite a steal, but definitely a good deal.

Bar tape can be switched easily. I'm not sure what you mean by "mint" but "noticeably not new" because to me... mint = looks new.
That's an odd duck though, I don't think you can get a CAAD10 with Red, at least not now. Was it built up from a frameset?
At any rate, that seems to be a reasonable deal if it fits you and you like it. This year's version with ultegra lists for 2400 and the wheels aren't as nice. Red is pricier than ultegra. That Ti FD is held in generally low esteem and it seems that a lot of people used to "upgrade" the FD to Force.

How can they sell it as a "new" bike for warranty purposes?

~12%
The bigger issue is that there are sizable tariffs on bikes imported from pretty much everywhere, so there is a hefty premium attached, even though nobody makes bikes here except a few custom guys.

Depending on where you live and maximum of 15% (not sure on how does PEI does it).
I'm curious as to where OP lives. By Canadian standards (and if the shop will cover warranty) it's a steal.

The US and Canadian dollar are roughly equal. I paid $1800 for a 2012 CAAD10 Ultegra model. Granted, it had never been previously ridden, but I considered that a pretty good deal. Getting SRAM Red for the same price? Yeah, I would have been all over that.

Hell, I'd go for it... especially if sold 'as new' with a full warranty.

Good morning,
Thank you for the replies, and for the warm welcome.
There are so many cycling forums, it made it difficult to pick one to start chatting on.
It seems nice here, everyone are friendly and informative.
J
I live in Canada, and the bike is from a LBS. So the tax is not avoidable, its 13% here in Ontario.
The seat is the standard seat from the 2012 Caad10. The Stem is a FSA, but I do not know the model. I did not pay attention at the time to the seat post and bar, thinking it was a stock Caad. After I got home, and done some research, I found out that this has to be built from the frame and up.
“The bike is in mint condition, but is noticeably not new. As indicated on the bar tape.”
My definition = excellent condition, but shows some minor signs of wear on the bar tape.
I am going to try out the bike tomorrow, hoping it is still there.
My height is 5’7 with a 30 inseam, how the size 52 they have at the LBS fits.

I believed that I have stolen the bike for $1700 taxed in with invoice, warranty, basic bike fit, and 3 free service. Went in today to test the bike, and made the payment. Will pick it up in a few days when my shoes gets here. Condition wasn't as mint as I had in my mind, but still in good shape. Dirty white hood, dirty tape, small scratch on the top tube, and some minor chain rash.
Seat post and Stem was FSA SLKs, Sram Red was the Limited Tour Edition, with Cannondale version of the 2011 Red crank. Pictures will come soon.
To the PM request, and the PM that I've received.
I am a new member, and it does not allow me to sent PM with under 50 post.
Bike was purchase @ Spoke O'Motion (New Market), which was awesome people.
I didn't see much 2012's left, except a Super 6
2012 Super 6 Evo Team Replica @ $5700
2011 E-112 (small) @ $1350
2011 E-80 (small) @ $1000
2012 Gallium w/ Ultegra Di2 (medium) @ $2500
Another place to look is Pedal Performance (Vaughn and Pickering)
Same as the above store, don;t think they have any 2012 CAADs left, but good deals on 2012 Super 6.
2012 Super 6 with Ultegra @ $2300
2012 Super 6 with 105 @ $2000
2012 Super 6 with Ultegra Di2 @ $3XXX
Give these guys a call, they might have more inventory then I've listed.

Good, but expensive. Really good, especially with stiffness/weight on their builds, as they aren't afraid to spec non-standard parts.
