Shooting Stones - Beware!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One time I short one up and it ricocheted off my frame and cut my leg.

I also got cut when some dude mowing is lawn went off the edge of the grass and onto the road which had a lot of gravel on it.

ouch!

and yes this has happened to me, my legs, arms, body, face have all been hit by debris but usually not something too big but many times forceful little pebbles which do kind of alarm me. i try not to ride on them, but on dusty paths, what can you do?

How somebody feels inside doesn't cause the pinch missile and it's not like the car is more damaged because somebody on the 41 was happy.

Cars do it to other cars all the time too. If you think riding on the shoulder creates a lot of pinch missiles you should ride gravel roads some time. Ping! Ping! Ping!

Edit: I'm proud of myself for not making a kidney stone reference.

Happened to me on my first organized event - hit a rock that flattened my tire. Ricocheted off my wheel I think and hit my crank and made a gash in it before shooting off into the air. Much unneeded drama.

It's not like I try to launch them at cars, in fact i do whatever I can to avoid running over rocks.

I get enough of them that they don't surprise me even when I try to avoid rocks.

Then, first ride on deeper carbon rims and one sounded like a gun shot. The hollow carbon resonated the noise someone that made it very loud. Now I'm getting used to that too.
